At my last appointment, my doctor told me that if I felt any decreased movement at all, I should come on in to get things checked out, and not even wait to do kick counts. Everything I'm reading, though, says that it's relatively normal for LO to start moving around less as we get closer to labor... I wish I had asked my doctor about it at the time, but I didn't, and now I'm wondering if there's something I don't know. Does anyone have any idea why she might have said that? LO didn't get up this morning when DH and I did (she usually starts moving around as soon as DH rolls out of bed), and I don't think it would have worried me if the doctor hadn't said that, but now I'm a little concerned.
Re: Something doctor said
My doc said to make sure you feel 10 or more movements before lunch and the same is true in the second half of the day but if anything seems off to call as there is no harm in coming in and being hooked up to the machine. She said the movements may seem slower because of room issues. As for the PP waiting, just be careful I know everyone wants to avoid intervention etc? but I know someone who lost her baby at 38 weeks and had she called when she noticed the decreased movement that may not have happened. There was an issue with the baby?s cord and if it was caught early a c-section may have saved the baby's life.
I was told it is normal for decreased movement and if concerned to drink ice water or sugary drink and lay down to do kick counts.
If your dr wants you to come in right away maybe she is just overly cautious. But I would definitely call her today and talk to her about it.
LO is still moving, but like PPers said, it's a little different. I'm getting more pushing, rolling type movements, instead of quick kicks. Most of them are very low - like LO could be trying to exit through my butt or bladder.
I don't ever look for specific kick counts or exact times, because LO doesn't keep a strict schedule and is pretty lazy compared with DD. If I haven't felt him/her in a few hours, I will usually change my position, drink something sweet and focus on the baby. As long as I get some kind of movement, I assume all is well in there.
This exactly. Also, she always responds to DH's voice, which is adorable AND alarming (hellooooo, this is your mother talking here...)
