So, my husband and I went shopping at Target this weekend. We were standing and debating which kitchen rug we liked better when this very large and very loud (and possibly crazy!) lady in a motorized wheelchair drove over to us.
She then proceeded to shout, "It looks like someone's going to have a baby soon!" I smiled and nodded politely, as she continued. "It looks like it's going to be twins." At this, I had to speak up... I mean, I'm about 10 days away from my due date and I'm large, but I'm not that big!
So I said to her, "Nope. Definitely not twins!"
She glances down at my belly, raises her eyebrows, and starts to drive away. "I wouldn't be so sure about that by the looks of things."
If you thought I was flabbergasted, you should have seen my husband!
Re: Thank you, rude stranger at Target
"In that case you must be expecting triplets" would have been a fun come-back.
This would have been awesome.
I've found that my sister, of all people, is guilty of the rudest comments. Last night she was all "god, don't have that baby right here!" implying that I'm so massive I just might explode.
And the ridiculous thing is, I'm NOT that big! Most people tell me I don't look big enough to be 9 months pregnant, and are very surprised that my due date is a week away.
So stuff it, sister.
Family and friend comments are the rudest I find too. Expecially from the women who've been pregnant and one would think they'd have some sympathy and remember what it was like in our shoes rather then telling you you're huge.
Yup, that's been my experience. Best thing is, SHE's now TTC, so I'm saving up all the snarky things she's been saying to me the last couple months :P Like: "you're such a thin pregnant woman! You haven't gained anywhere, you're all belly! ... well.. and your butt... but nowhere besides those two places!" sigh. Almost a compliment, honey, almost.
