Britax users <- ignore (will repost with pics/video tomorrow)

I have such a hard time with this carseat.  We started using it yesterday.  When  I try to tighten the straps the rubber "guards" get in the way and get jammed up against the cushion like strap covers.

Anyone have this problem?

Also I know in the infant seat the straps have to be tight enough so you cant pinch them.  Is this the same for the convertable?  If so with all the junk (strap cover and rubber guards) on the straps how can I get them tight enough.  What am I doing wrong?

  • Which seat do you have specifically?

We have been using ours sins September and have never had a single problem. Can you take a picture of Lamar in the seat and post it?

  • Awesome....I will try and snag a picture of Avery as we have the same seat. Also, please ignore my horrible spelling mistakes in my first response.

  • I know you said no more responses but I think I know what you mean.  I push the rubber guards and chest clip down towards N's legs before I tighten the straps so that when you tighten and they move up, they don't reach the shoulder cushions.  Could be you also have the cushions too far forward?

As for how tight they should be, yes, you should not be able to pinch them, otherwise they are too loose.

I think the problem is that LO's torso is too short for the belt to accomdiate the rubber guards, strap covers and chest clip.  I think I will do a video and show you ladies maybe I am doing something wrong or LO is to tiny for the seat.

I have the same problem vigurl. I think it has to do with smaller children maybe. Callie is on the taller side, but is tiny in general. I find that there is just too much going on with the rubber guards and the strap covers too. I was starting to wonder if I could take them off.

I'll be interested to see what others do/suggest/etc.

Ok so it is not just me!  I am going to call Britax and ask them too.

  • Glad you posted...you are not alone.  We just switched to the convertible seat (advocate c/s) this past weekend and I have been thinking I must be doing something wrong! My DD is on the small side...only about 18 lbs or so.  I have been fiddling with the straps and I *think* it works best if you do as Gymnast said (i think) and pull rubber straps down before tightening.  Even still though I feel like they are big and cumbersome!
