Mine has had some sort of family tragedy and will no longer be able to be the pediatrician for my baby and i'm freaking out. I don't even know if anybody will take me now that i'm 39 weeks+. I asked the nurse that called about the possibility of a patient transfer to another pediatrician office since the one I was going to was a single Dr. practice and she said no I have to find someone else.
From what i've read they won't release you from the hospital at all unless you have a pediatrician lined up? I have no idea what to do.
I called 2 offices yesterday and left voice mails explaining the situation and havent heard back from anybody.
Does anybody have any experience with this?
Re: Have to find a new pediatrician at 39 weeks... help!
I would try the other 2 offices back today. Most likely they won't return vm's anyway. Make sure you aren't calling around lunch hour either, as some offices go to service or vm. They were probably EXTREMELY busy yesterday after being closed for a long holiday weekend.
I would totally not panic. The hospital will help line something up for you if you don't reach one of the other two offices before you deliver. The hospital will have a book of physicians by specialty that practice out of that hospital. You can also call them proactively for a list of names. If that doesn't work, they will help you when you get there. For cost purposes a hospital wouldnt REFUSE a discharge without offering some type of help - insurance wouldnt pay for an extended unneccessary stay and the hospital wouldnt get paid. All scare tactics
Good luck.
The two main practices in my town do not allow you to pick a pediatrician before the baby before she is born, so the pediatricians on call will get to see her for the first few appointments.
I will check which practices (multi-doctor) do rounds in your hospital and go from there. GL!
Agree with ppers - there's no need to panic. When I had DD, I thought I had selected a ped, but the hospital had never heard of them. So, I just went with their in-house and we're still going there now.
For this LO, I will again be going with the in house at my new hospital and then switching to where DD is going for regular visits.
I did not have to prove I had an appointment lined up to check out of the hospital. All I had to do was give them a name, so they could share records. And no one is going to come back and double check if you've followed up.
