With M we knew we wanted to get pregnant right away. We started trying the month before we got married. Fast forward 2.5 years and I finally got pregnant. We are getting ready to start TTC #2 in the next month. It just feels right and not knowing if it will take 2 years again I rather start trying now rather than later.
The first time, I got bit by the baby bug and convinced DH to stop preventing and see what happened. It was more me than him that wanted to get pregnant. I got pregnant on the first try, which shocked me because I had expected it to take a few months.
The second time, it was me again, but it was more of a "let's just see what happens, I'm ready, but I am not going to worry about it" type thing. DH didn't need convincing the second time around, he was ready for it.
To me, I went back and forth a lot before I hit the point where I thought to myself, "Ok, I am ready for this" and I think it was the same for DH.
It took us 9.5 years to get married as DH was seriously dragging his feet the last few years. I told DH that having a baby soon was on my mind and I was not going to wait almost ten years for him to make up his mind this time. After a few months of serious discussions and hints, we made a deal. He got to buy a motorcycle, I got to stop taking BC. That was July, I got pregnant in September
I had to wait until we had adjusted a bit to having one child, and then we were trying to get work figured out. However, we started talking about how long it had taken us TTC the first time around, and decided that in the long run, it's just up to God and are going to trust that he'll take care of us. We're really hoping for 3 kids, and I'm already 32, so it's not like we have tons of time.
I don't remember what exactly the conversations were the first time around, but eventually we stopped preventing. Took >1 year + help, so didn't really prevent after #1 but it was a year before my cycle returned and another year before a m/c, then 5 months more. We had previously talked about having 2 so no real discussions around the second one.
Re: If you are TTC...
First kiddo, I was sick of waiting for the right time. I told my H that he had a year before I put on the pants and it was go time.
This kiddo, it was the opposite. H was ready before I was. I wanted to get a few more ducks in a row, first.
The only Easter Bunny I can get behind.
