I'm not sure how the absorbency compares, but I prefer using prefolds. I like the fit, the price, and the fact that they're natural fibers. The big difference is that the Flip insert wicks away moisture, but you can use a fleece liner if you'd like.
I use Indian prefolds with flips covers and we all love it. I'm considering buying fleece liners to help them feel dry longer. I use 2 stay drys at night since it helps pull the moisture away so they can sleep longer.
I'm using PFs or Best Bottoms inserts in my Flips! Love them! I'm not a fan of microfiber and the organic inserts seem just like an expensive prefold to me.
