Annoyed at critical comment by SIL

My DH has a SIL that lives in Mongolia. We hardly ever see her and she's usually a pretty nice person but she sort of criticized me recently and it kind of hurt my feelings. So here's what happened...I changed my status on Facebook to say "Wishing for a New Year's baby". I am due on either Jan. 23 or Jan. 25 (I've been given 2 due dates). So New Year's would only be 3 weeks early, which is full term anyway. My other SIL commented on my status and said "wouldn't that be nice, since your DH's birthday is close to then". I commented back and said "yeah, it would be about 3-3.5 weeks early but perhaps a little easier to push out LOL"  My other SIL wrote on my wall and said "from experience, having a baby earlier does NOT make it easier to push out".  It's not as if I'm hoping for a premie for god's sake!!! Would you be annoyed at this comment?

Re: Annoyed at critical comment by SIL

  • Everyone just has to make a comment... Maybe she was just having a hormonal day or something... I'd just let it go unless she keeps making comments like that.

  • oh no, not the "wishing for an early baby" drama again! you apparently missed the very heated debate earlier this week in which the ladies from 0-6 mos came over and blasted a girl for wishing for an early baby.

I wouldn't be upset about it. She's simply providing you her experience. I'd let it go. :)

  • But wouldn't "early" be before 37 weeks which is full-term??? I never did see the drama. I usually quit nesting when people start arguing...I find it extremely annoying.

  • It's hard to tell her tone online, but it honestly sounds like she is half joking. I would brush it off... she probably didn't mean anything by it!!

  • Tell her to hush, every baby/birth is different! I had mine at 34.5 weeks due to several moderate complications, and he was fine, breathing on his own, and came home with us! I was induced, but only in labor for about 1 hour 20 min from pit to delivery! So no, it is not always harder the earlier they are! You are fine, and how your baby comes out, when your baby comes out is completely your business! Once a mother, you are apparently a qualified expert on everything baby, birth and conception!
  • I don't see anything wrong with your comment but when you make comments like that you have to be prepared to be criticized for making them... just saying. ?Ignore it I say!
