Vacuum

Are any of you LOs afraid of the vacuum? DS is terrified of it! I don't know what to do!! He screams bloody murder if I turn it on and I'm not holding him. He cries even if I'm holding him, just not AS hard. So I have been vacuuming with him in the carrier. But he is getting sooo heavy it's starting to make vacuuming an Olympic sport for me! I can't vacuum during his naps because it wakes him up. I've tried letting him play with the vacuum while it's off and he wants none of it! He freaks out if he even sees it! Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

I tried t. He loves Baby Einstein and I can put it on and have him watching as happy as can be and as soon as that vacuum turns on, even in the other room, terror!

DH is away with the Navy right now so it's just me and him here so I guess he's just going to have to cry! Thanks for the support, at least I'm not the only one with a wimp out there Wink

  • DS hates the vacuum too. It used to make him fall asleep, now it makes him freak out.

I usually put him in his exersaucer so that he can watch me. He seems to do better when he can sit and watch me, to make sure the vacuum doesn't come after him, and maybe he feels safer in his exersaucer because he's contained. ??? He doesn't watch the hose/nozzle though, he watches the actual vacuum container.

I'll do one half the room while he's in the other, then switch him over to do the second half. It's usually the only time when he's awake that he gets his paci too.

My LO is too he sits there eyes wide and hands up trembling. :/ HOnestly, it's a new thing with him, before he was fine with the vacuum and the car wash, but suddenly is completely scared.

  • Same thing here. I wait until he's "awake" in his crib and do the whole house then transfer him to his exersaucer and do his room. Makes it less scary cause the noise level is more muted. We also have a two story so it works better for us to do it that way.
