LOL, pregnancy is getting AWKWARD

It's really sweet that people at our church are very interested in our pregnancy and always want to hear about our latest news.  But things have gotten awkward since we are breech and planning on a vaginal birth attempt.  If the baby's feet aren't in the right position, we'll have to do a c-section.  On Sunday DH told this story to like 100 different people and kept saying the words "vaginal birth" and every time I was like "cringe!  now everyone is thinking about my vagina!"  I told him to say "normal birth" but then some people were like "what does that mean?" so he went back to saying VAGINAL.  Vagina vagina vagina.

(BTW not saying that c-sections aren't normal....just trying to avoid the V word!)

Re: LOL, pregnancy is getting AWKWARD

  • It is definitely weird, I agree.  I'm trying for a VBAC and about half the people I talk to have no idea what I'm talking about.  So, I have to speak it out, which is uncomfortable.

  • I HATE the word vagina! I have no idea why but I avoid it at all cost! I bet it was really awkward with him saying it at church!

  • LOL! I actually don't mind the words "vagina" or "vaginally." I much prefer to say "vagina" to "birth canal" or something like that.

Maybe you could try something like, "We're hoping to deliver naturally and avoid a c-section." Or maybe, "We're hoping to avoid a c-section and would like to try a traditional delivery." Something like that.

  • We were in a similar position as baby was breech but turned at the last minute  and we're hoping he'll stay that way. When I explain it I say "We hope to be able to give birth the traditional way instead of having a c-section." Saying "vaginally" doesn't bother me too much around friends or other women, but when speaking to men or a stranger it does seem slightly awkward.

Wow, really wish my LO would make a late turn. I have a scheduled cs on Friday and am totally devastated I cannot deliver VAGINALLY. Lol, seriously though I'm pretty upset. If I don't have it scheduled though ill get whatever doctor is on call and as my MW will be gone from my due date to the following week (her soon I'd getting married) I'm not comfortable having my plans change that much and having an OB I've never met. The word vagina doesn't really bug me. I was ornery today and when a co-worker said that I was really waddling a lot more than last week I told her it was because it felt like there was a foot in my vagina thank you.

Good comeback!  I'm sorry that you're feeling so bad.  Our doc said more than likely we'll have to have a c-section as well.  It's a bummer when you've been planning all along for a vaginal birth.  Last week my MW was talking about making a birth plan and I was like "we HAD a birth plan until we found out that even if we do have a vaginal birth I'll have to deliver in the OR."

On the upside, you get to avoid labor!  Some girls in my pregnancy fitness class we're talking about how they vomited with every single contraction during labor.  It made me feel better about a c-section :)
