DH and I are struggling to come up with a name we both agree on for this LO. We found out last week that we are expecting a 2nd boy which shocked me. I was sure it was a girl. We had talked boy names before, but couldn't agree on any. Now we've come up with a short list and at the top for me right now is Luke.
The only problem with this is my bff had a baby in April and had her little girl been a boy, it would have been Luke. I asked her about us using the name and she is okay with it, but said if they have a boy in the future his name will probably be Lucas (nn Luke). Would you use the name anyway?

Re: WWYD?
If Luke is your #1, I would still use it.
Patrick is my favorite on your list (but they are all good)
I prefer Lucas over Luke because I think of him in the future as and adult. I think that Lucas is more professional... if he needs to be.
As for using the name - Do you think your kids (her potential boy) will grow up together and attend the same school and all that? If so, then maybe it should be reconsidered. If not, I don't see a problem using it.
I don't think they'll go to the same school and they definitely wouldn't be in the same grade if they did. They will probably spend time together as the parents are friends.
I'm leaning towards using it, but needed some reassurance that it wouldn't be too weird if we both has Lukes in the future.
I would totally use it. There's nothing wrong with two friends having kids with the same names--especially because you asked her and she is OK with it and because the two kids would not be the same age. Plus, as others have said, she might not ever have a boy.
I might be biased, since I obviously love the name Luke:)

You give your son the name Luke and she names her (future) son Lucas; there's a big enough difference that it really isn't that big of a deal. Besides, what if her child doesn't want to go by the nn of Luke? When I was a child, my mother wanted to call me by a nn, but I was having none of that. Even to this day the only person who calls me by the diminutive is my grandmother and that still makes me cringe.
PS. I also think it was nice of you to ask your friend if she would mind if you used the name. Although there is no such thing as "stealing a name," it was considerate of you to ask.

bump burp - sorry for the dupe
This. Although if you want my $0.02, I pick Graham from your list.
DH would love to hear that! Haha. I'm not a fan at all, but he insists on keeping it on the list in case it grows on me. I just foresee a future of the kid being called Graham crackers his whole life.
