I haven't been around in probably 2 years, but now find myself looking for somewhere to talk to someone and here I am!
So a little backstory. I ALWAYS measure small after about week 30, this being my 3rd pregnancy my OBGYN was a little less worried and at 32 weeks scheduled an U/S for my 38 week appt since that was the next time I saw her. As soon as the measurements started showing up I knew something wasn't right. My fluid measured 4.1 and my son was less than 5 lbs. Estimated development was 32-33 weeks. We went straight to the hospital (connected to the clinic) where they tried to induce me to no avail, as soon as they started pitocin I needed to be put on oxygen as DS's heartbeat dropped, it dropped into the 50's with every contraction, but my contractions weren't doing anything for me. So after 15 hours of labor, I elected to have a c-section because his heart rate continued to drop and started to take longer to jump back up and I was still at 1.5 cm dilated. So 17 days early Ethan was born at 4 lbs 7 oz and 19 inches long. In the NICU we had him on an IV for blood sugars, feeding tube to check the time it took him to digest and later as his only source of food, and a few other machines. Fast forward to today. Ethan is almost 10 months old and has near constant spitting up, severely anemic, a normal cold puts him out, (ended up in the ER for one) and he is just about 14 lbs (even though he eats solids 2-3 times per day plus 36-40 ish oz of formula. No diagnoses, no ideas.
Now my questions as I know this is getting long and I thank whoever read this all. Thursday we go to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN (again) to see GI, Genetics and an echocardiogram. My question is the paperwork says he can drink water and clear juice before the echo but can't eat or have formula. Ok, understand this, but aside from water and juice what falls under clear liquids? Anyone have an echo and need to refrain from feeding?
Re: Introduction and a few questions
Is he being sedated for the echo? I believe that the reason for the clear liquids would be to prevent vomiting from any meds, but this may not be the case for you. I think that clear Pedilyte and chicken broth would fall under those categories, but you may want to check with the nurse about any types of liquids. I know that sometimes you can even give Jello, but, again, I think it depends on the situation (and, I have heard always no red liquids, because if there is vomit, they don't want red in there in case of bleeding).
Good luck!
We were told water or white apple juice and that's it for clear liquids. Better to be safe then have to reschedule it. My daughter was 10 months when she was sedated and she was able to have formula until midnight and then only water after that. She was fine - not happy but we kept her distracted and she didn't get too upset. She was sedated for an MRI - they did an echocardiogram without sedation - why do they need to sedate for that? We fed her a bottle during the echo and she laid still for it. But it's not like an MRI - you can move a little bit and not screw up the results.
I may be paranoid, but the tech took 12-15 pictures of his liver, so until I hear otherwise I am worried she saw something.... He did well with the sedation, but after the U/S was cranky he hadn't eaten... He was straight up pissed he couldn't eat today
It's interesting they sedate for under 1 year because all of the echo's that both girl shave had that were under 1 year were easy peasy. P's last one she was around 18 months and they couldn't even do it.
