Babies: 9 - 12 Months

hunger strike

LO is 10 months old.  He started rice cereal at 5 months and apples at 6 months.  I used to try to make my own purees, but I couldn't get them as smooth as Gerber could and he didn't want them.  A few weeks ago, he would eat three meals a day - all packaged with no chunks or texture - one fruit with oatmeal, one veggie or fruit, and one veggie or fruit with meat (e.g. sweet potatoes and turkey).  Recently, though, he will push away anything.  I tried those pouches that he can feed himself but once he realizes there is food in it, he pushes it away.  For the last week, he would at least eat bananas but yesterday and today he pushes that away after he tries a bite or too.  It might sound like teething, but based on other behaviors, I think there is more going on.  Anyone else seen this?  He continues to enjoy teething biscuits, wagon wheels, and puffs, but does not eat them, just mouths them.

OH no!!!  Sounds like mine.  Just started this week.  Refusing all solids except puffs, wagon wheels, etc...   We thought teething also and she had been sick, but over it now.  I don't understand either.

  • My guess would be possibly a cold coming on?  About 10 days ago, DD refused to eat my homeade purees - stuff that she had guzzeled down prior.  Two days later she had an all on cold.  I think her throat was hurting so she didn't want to eat the stuff with texture.  Gave her the pouches with no texture and she ate those up like candy!

  • DD is 10 months old and has been doing the same thing for the last two weeks. Things that she has been eating for months she now refuses. The only things I can get her to eat are fruit and bread. I've heard a lot of people go through this. Not sure if it's teeth or if it's just a phase. At least she is still taking a bottle, so I know she's getting some vitamins. I figure I will just give her what works for now and just keep trying with veggies and some meats until she starts to take them again.
