TTC After a Loss

3 ECTOPICS AND 3 IUI'S- TRY AGAIN?

Hello. I will keep this short and not write everything in my bio, lol. My husband and I have had 3 ectopic pregnancies and 3 IUI's in the last 6 years. I had surgery for one ectopic which now my left tube is no good and I had surgery for cyst and endometriosis. My fertility Doctor said we will definitely need to do Invitro. However, as many others it's so expensive so you try to look at any and every option. Especially considering we spent $6,000.00 on three IUI's and that did nothing. MY QUESTION IS can I get some of your opinions opinions on if you would try once more naturally or wait to do invitro. The thing is I'm 32 so I don't have long and my husband and I just started building a new house so it would be a while before we could save up that much money and my insurance pays for nothing. It's been on my mind a lot lately about trying on our own once more and just see what the outcome would be. Don't be scared to tell me exactly what you think. I need some support from other women who have been through heartache as I have. It would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely,

Shaun

I don't have any advice as I have never been through an ectopic once, let along 3x. I am so sorry you're here, for your losses and that you have to go through this. I hope you're able to get some valuable opinions from ladies with similar experiences and perspective.

I don't have any experience with ectopics, but I know a few ladies here do.  As for your IVF questions, you might also get some good feedback if you for this on the IF boards.  I am so sorry for your losses.  Good luck to you.

I am so sorry you find yourself here.  My opinion, coming from someone with no medical knowledge or knowledge of risks, would be try natural while you are waiting to save up money to try invitro.  I wish I had more knowledge in this so I could give you a knowledgable response.  But I hope this helped a little.

  • First of all, I'm so sorry for all you've been through. I've had one ectopic and lost my right tube. Honestly if I had even one more ectopic I'd move to IVF because after each ectopic the chance of another goes up considerably. I'm not much younger than you, I'll be 31 in a few weeks.

To me the cost of IVF would just be worth it, I'd do whatever I had to do...take out loans, borrow from family, downgrade home and car, anything. I know there are no guarantees but I think its the safest "bet" at preventing another ectopic.

    Good luck!

  • Well- honestly- only you know what is best fo you and what you can afford.... I would talk to your RE- some places have special payment plans for invetro- I know mine does... and if yours doesnt- them search around for one that does- once you know what kind of payment plan you could have- then maybe you could make an informed decision... BUt you are ONLY 32- so you do have awhile- so if you decide to try on your own for awhile and save up money- that would be a fine decision as well....

Also- I am so sorry for all your losses!!!

I'm so sorry you've been through what you have, I've also suffered 3 ectopics including one which took my tube, It's a heartbreaking thing. After our 2nd we decided to try one last time. That was another ectopic and at that point we were done. We knew it wasn't getting anywhere, so we have moved to IVF. It's a decision that only you and your SO can decide. Good luck to you.

  • Why exactly did the dr. tell you that you would definitely need IVF?  I have had an ectopic and knew that my chances of another were higher than in the general popluation, but I was never told that my chances of a healthy pg were nil.  It was/is harder for me to get pg due to only one tube, but the HSG test I had showed my other tube was clear and I have gotten pg 3x since the ectopic (2 babies, 1 mc).

I think your answer is kind of impossible to answer without a little more info.  Is your other tube clear?  Which dr. told you you would need IVF for sure and what were his/her reasons?
