December 2012 Moms

We are moving!

Right now we are in Iowa, which is lovely but we are ready for something new. So after this baby comes (and probably has lived a couple of months lol), we are planning a move halfway across the country! We haven't decided where yet, but we just decided today that we are going to do it. FI's businesses will stay here and he'll probably purchase another apartment complex wherever we end up. FI wants Miami because we have a vacation home there already, but it pays for itself during the summer when we rent it out. I want to keep the vacation house as just that and go to San Francisco. Either way, I'm excited to get out of here!

Re: We are moving!

  • Jealous! I'm also in Iowa.  Been in the midwest all my life.  I'm SO tired of this!  FI applied to a grad program in AK last year and we were both hoping he'd get in just so we could have a drastic change in environment.  Sadly, he didn't and we're still stuck here until well after the baby comes :/

  • Lucky! I wish I had a vacation home!

I think you should move somewhere completely opposite  of Miami, so your vacation home stays a "vacation"!

I have a vacation home.  It's an old trailer in the middle of the woods.  Be jealous.

You should NOT move to Michigan, because it's really really cold in the winter and really really hot in the summer (probably much like Iowa).  It's also always under construction, however, if you decide to...I know a few towns you should consider :-)

    California would be awesome.

  • Come up to Boston . It's a blast

  • San Fran is great, just the weather!  ugh!  Unless you don't like warm weather, which some people don't!

There are some gorgeous places around Sacramento with TONS of parks and great schools and great shopping and entertainment!  Roseville, Folsom (yes, the prison, but it's really beautiful there)...  plus you're still very close to Monterey and San Fran!

OMG agree times a million. This week is going to be so up and down temp wise and yesterday's heat/humidity was AWFUL.

I actually really don't mind the weather there! I love how ecclectic the city is, the food and just the life! Its my favorite city! I've always seen myself living there!

    Me too!

Yay on the move.  Jealous of moving somewhere warm.  I love Chicago, but I'm not a fan of cold!

Ugh, yesterday I spent most of the day in the car driving home from the previously mentioned "cabin" in the woods.  However, packing up and unpacking was so hot and miserable I almost just left all the crap in the car.

I don't know where you are, but the construction here is so bad right now.  I can't get anywhere without hitting some sort of detour/back up.

Yay for So Cal!  Well, I'm Central So Cal!  Yay!  The best weather all year and where I live we even get pretty cold icy winters!  Hooray!

We're in Lansing and the construction started today in most areas. They're closing all but 1 northbound lane of US-127 (which is the only way to "Go North" from here without taking back roads and the way to get to/from my parents). So trying to meet up with my mom for baby stuff any time before August is going to suck.

This is why we have everything there already! The lake house and the FL house are all fully stocked at all times. I just get in the car/on a plane and go!

I shall rent you my cabin in the woods.  It's in Glennie (by Hale?).  Not as far a drive for you in Lansing.  I'm in Southgate.

Clarissa, I would keep it stocked, but because it's in the woods I'm always afraid mice are going to get into the food and stuff.  We keep a lot of stuff there, but always bring up fresh food and clothes.  It's a 3.5 hour drive, so we don't get up there often enough to leave food.  I wish I could...I'm jealous.

Ive done the Carolinas and would rather not go back. They were not kind to me. The only place in Georgia that I would enjoy is Savannah and I just don't think I'd enjoy it enough to move there. I'm pretty sure these 2 are the only options we will entertain.

San fran is awesome!  But if you're getting away from the cold move a little south from there...u can still drive up, but are out of the fog. lol

On another note, san diego is awfully lovely...

This.  San Diego is so gorgeous.

I lived in Pacific Heights for a few years and it gets pretty chilly, particularly at night in the summer.  I was used to 70s-80s at night, so when it was cold and wet in the 50s in July it was quite a shock.  But other than that, it's gorgeous!  Definitely one of those cities that feels alive.  On days that were a little too cold and foggy, we'd just drive down to San Jose where some friends lived.  Amazing how such a short drive can make such a huge difference in weather.

  • I really hated San Diego when I lived there. I don't know why.  It seemed to be always muggy and just... yuck.  IDK, I love San Francisco and have always seen myself living there.  It's a very HCOL, but I think it's worth it.
