I'm looking to get a matching baby and daddy shirt for his favorite baseball team. Something that said "My First Royals Shirt" on the baby shirt and, well, still working on finding something for daddy!
I picked up a copy of "The New Father's Guide" it may end up being a totally lame read for him, but he was just mentioning how clueless he felt when it came to how many diapers to expect a day and common things like that.
Seriously the best present you could get him is a card with $$ for a night on the town with buddies and an afternoon to do whatever sport he likes that takes time (i.e. biking, running, golf, etc.).
I'll be buying my husband a book of nursery rhymes. Even before we got pregnant he would talk about how he doesn't remember any from his childhood and is worried he won't know what to read to our little one. I find it very sweet how concerned he is. Good luck finding a gift that will suit your guy!
