Is there a bad time of day for a kids b-day party?

We are planning our LO's b-day party for Saturday June 30th. Originally I was thinking 12:00-2:00 so we could have plenty of food for people to have lunch. However, our LO has been transitioning into 1 nap a day lately, and now it seems she goes as late as 12:30 or even 1:00 during her nap. So we are thinking of having the party 1:00-3:00 instead. But then people will probably already have eaten lunch. So is that a bad time? Or is it bad for other kids' naps? Argh, just not sure if it's better to have it early afternoon, or late afternoon. What are you guys doing?

Re: Is there a bad time of day for a kids b-day party?

  • I want to start at 2, DH wants to start at noon.  So....we haven't decided yet.

My friend just did her LO's party at 3-5.

  • I think 12-2 is reasonable for most people.

We are just doing a BBQ that people can stop by whenever, so we are starting after most kids are done with naps around 4.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

2:00 till we're done. Backyard BBQ, I figure we'll keep the grill going and it can be late lunch for some, early dinner for others. Not many friends have LOs, but they can use a spare baed or PNP if the kids need to nap while they're here.

  • We are staring at 3:00, going til whenever. Luckily, we will be at my parents', so if Lena gets tired there will be a PNP there and she is used to napping there. We only have one other baby coming, so to be honest, I didn't give a ton of thought to other LOs' schedules. I think no matter what time you do, people will eat. Do whatever works best for your LO, because if she is miserable, you won't be able to enjoy it! Everyone will understand :)
  • Where I live, it seems people purposefully plan their parties to where they will not have to provide food. So, I think if you want to do a party where you serve food (those are my favorite and the kind I intend to throw) then I would make it a dinner party? Like say 4-6.

  • I say schedule it around what is best for you and your LO. People will eat at a party no matter what time it is. I haven't given tons of thought to our party time yet (the party isn't until July 28th), but we will most likely have it from 1pm until whenever. We will be serving plenty of food. I also wouldn't worry about other kids naps because you can never work around everyone's schedule.
