My 16-week-old baby sleeps through the night for 9 hours, but daytime naps are horrible. He gets super tired and proceeds to scream, but he will not go down for a nap unless I hold him. He's already high maintenance, so I'm giving him attention whenever he's awake, and I NEED to set him down for a nap--for my sanity. Advice appreciated
Re: Help with Naptime
E was a horrible napper but slept great at night too. We are on day four of trying to put some structure around his daytime sleeping. We are trying to follow 2-3-4 routine, which is working great for us. We were lucky if we got 30min naps at a time from E, but this has stretched to over an hour (sometimes 2!) with this routine.
The first nap should be two hours after they wake up for the day. The second nap should be three hours after they wake up from the first nap and bedtime should be four hours after waking up from the second nap. So for today, here is what our schedule looks like (so far!):
6:20am - wake-up
8:20-? - nap #1
he will probably wake up around 930-945, which means he'll be ready for a nap around 12:45pm, and will sleep until 2:30ish, which means bedtime between 6:30-7pm. This is only our fourth day of trying this, but so far it has really helped put some structure and routine to the day and we've gotten some long naps from E.
What time is your LO going to bed / getting up? 9 hours straight is great at this age, but it's not enough nighttime sleep. He might be starting out the day overtired. I know that my DD needs about 12 hours at night, and she can only stay awake for a few hours at a time during the day.
