February 2012 Moms

Teachers

Are you still working or are you out for the summer?  When do you go back in the fall?  Are you required to do anything over the summer months?

Since I had a late February baby, I ended up not needing to go back for the last 12 weeks. Today is the last day of school so I'm going in to pack my classroom for the summer and say goodbye to the kids. My MIL is watching the girls for me for the first time. We go back to school around the 20th of August. My DH teaches 1st grade so I can't wait until he's out for the summer too!

I was lucky enough to only have to go back to school for the last week-- my first day will be June 15th. I wanted to go back anyway to say goodbye to my kiddies and pack up my room too, so it's not too bad.

I'll start  up again full time in September when school starts. I wish my hubby was a teacher too so we could have the summers together, but it is what it is. I'm just so grateful that I have this time off with my son. :-)

  • I don't go back till Sept 4th.  If i was to go back this year I would have had to go back on April 16th, which was the start of 4th marking period. There was no way I could have gone back then, due to my horrid healing process..which is still not complete yet!

My husband is definitely jealous of my time with our little guy and I'm thankful to have the first 6 months at home with him.

  • We are still in session until June 16, and then teachers are contracted to work (professional development) until June 30.  I, however, am not teaching right now and am simply working on various projects for my principal until the end of this school year.

Our summer break is one month long, so we return for more professional development at the beginning of August, and kids start a month later.  I have TONS to do over the summer since I will be teaching a new grade that has not existed at our school yet.

FYI, I teach at a charter school in Chicago.

  • This is our last week. I worked the last three weeks of school. It was pretty nice since students were done with state testing. I will not be coming back next year so I have to pack my things by this Friday. I don't know how it will get all done I also have to turn in tons of paperwork. So I will have to stay late once or twice this week.

  • I'm back for the last 10 days only half days though.  I could have come back the last 5 days but it would have been full days and I didn't want to do full-time until the fall.

A bit of a gripe though-.  my long term sub took it a little too much to heart when I told her she didn't have to do everthing my way and to "make the room her own".  She literally took down everything that had my name on it and replaced it, re-did my bullentins (which I leave up year to year), reorganized where I store everything, and reorganized my desk (as in the pens, pencils, paperclips are all in "new" spots.  So, instead of spending the last few days enjoying my students and packing up my room,  I am trying to find all my stuff, put it back where it belongs, and then pack up.  Serioulsy on Friday I spent 10 minutes trying to locate my personal desk items (like gifts from past students, a teacher figurine, etc.)  I know she did a great job, in fact she got a job on my team next year, but did she really need to tear apart my room?

So annoying.  That is a little extreme.  My sub, on the other hand, has let my classroom get incredibly messy and disorganized.  I'm trying not to let it bother me and will deal with it when the students are gone.

  • I was super fortunate to not have to back this year.  I will go back after Labor day for the new school year.  I had wanted to go in and help pack up so that I can find everything in Sept., but we will be away the last week of school.  So I putting it in the hands on my sub.  Luckily we keep in contact so hopefully I can guide her a bit.  She has done a great job so I trust her.  So thankful for this time home.  Sounds like we will need a support group this fall!

Im in Ontario, and our school year always runs from Labour Day in Sep - end of June, with nothing required in July or Aug. And Im lucky that we get full year leaves, so Im off til the end of January next year.

The most annoying thing about going back to work in Sep every year is that the custodians unplug ALL the computer stuff and move it around to clean and wax the floors, etc, so its a huge rats nest that we have to figure out. SO ANNOYING.

BUT I got surplussed from my school this year (falling enrollment, and Im the youngest teacher, so first to go :( ), so now I have to apply for jobs at other schools and go on interviews for jobs that start in Feb, all while still on mat leave. Also so annoying...

  • The last day for students is June 14, and we only have one day after that to finish packing up.  Then we are out until Aug. 20 when we'll return to do professional development.  Our kids don't start until the day after Labor Day.  I've been back since April 27th, and I am so done!  I wish we were finished...only 2.5 more weeks!!

  • Technically I should have gone back a week or two ago, but I opted to take off until next school year. Although, I teach drama after school three times a week. Luckily that gets done in about two more weeks! In my area, schools start back up a few days before Labor Day weekend; teachers go back about a week before for professional development. I'll be working part-time with a job-share this next year, which should be extremely interesting. So wish I could just be a SAHM!

I'm nervous to go into my room to help pack-up. A few other teachers have commented that my stuff is not in the best shape. :(

  • Our last day is June 21st! Can you believe it...I have been back at work since April 16th, so I can not wait until summer. I don't have to come back until August 29th...but I am having to move rooms because I am moving grade levels.

  • Our last day was last Wednesday. However, I didn't go back this school year. I did go up a few days ago to pick up my laptop and keys, and my sub completely took down all of my stuff too. It was a nightmare trying to find things, but I'm not going to worry about it right now.

We got back to school August 1st, and that will be my return to work after a 5+ month hiatus. We have a modified year round schedule, so I'll have 2 weeks off in the fall, at Christmas, and Spring. I love getting those little chunks of time at home with the kids.

  • I went back at the beginning of April, and we got out last Tuesday. I don't have to do anything over the summer, and we go back August 16.
