My baby is still Frank Breech and I only have one more week before the doctor wants to discuss options. My understanding is that if breech they don't want to take the chance of going into labor on my own so they would induce me by week 37 (two weeks away) vs letting me go into labor on my own in hopes the baby turns. Anyone else in this position?
Re: FREAKING OUT- Baby is Frank Breech
My baby is still breech as well. However, as far as I know, breech babies aren't a medical reason to justify inducing labor and I'd be questioning my OB if I was in your position. In my case, my OB scheduled my c-section for 39w4d (June 27), because by ACOG standards they can't do the c-section without a medical reason prior to 39 weeks. If I happen to go into labor before then, they'll just do the c-section sooner.
Are they still going to attempt a vaginal birth for a frank breech baby? I'd definitely be doing a little more investigating if I were you.

my babe is frank breech as well.
if she doesn't turn, my doc will not deliver a breech baby. she will do a external version to try to turn the baby; or a planned c section in the 39th week.
i have another appt today to discuss - will keep you posted.
My bebe is also breech at the moment, but she still has time to turn. That being said my doctor said we would have 3 options to explore if baby doesn't wanna flip. 1. they can do a c-section. 2. they can medically try to turn her or 3. we can still deliver vaginally. The only problem for 3 is that baby girl is measuring really large so therefore, if she gets stuck they can't use forescepts (sp?) Or the vacum pump thing on a bum so my dr does not suggest the vaginal birth route. Overall, my doctors do feel confortable birthing a franks breech, but obviously not every doctor feels the same.
Its been suggested to encourage her to flip by doing children or cats pose in yoga (I don't remember which it was called but I bet google would know). Basically you get on all fours and stretch your arms forward (while still touching the ground) and relax your head. My OBGYN demonstrated the pose on the office floor (kinda funny). Anyway, she said that even if it doesn't flip baby it helps hip and back pain. So its a win-win . Hope this helps!
Sorry, it's not always the case that an "emergency" CS involves a different incision than a scheduled one. It really depends on why the CS occurs and the medical history of the mother and baby.
It's also not true that vaginal deliveries with a frank breech are never done, it depends on the doctor, mother, and baby.
If you're frank breech now, you still have time and options to move baby. If your doctor does not deliver frank breech babies, they certainly won't induce you, they'll schedule a CS after the 39th week *if* the baby is still breech. If the baby remains breech and you go into labor sooner, you'll have the CS immediately. Note that this is an unscheduled CS, not an emergency one. Same incision, same procedure....this happened to me when my water broke with DD 6 days before my scheduled CS.
If your due date approaches and it looks like a CS is a real possibility, check out the CS board, there's lots of great info and helpful ladies who will try to put your mind at ease. In the meantime, have a discussion with your doc about your options for turning baby and the possible outcomes. And try to relax, you have lots of time and the stress isn't good for you or baby.
No, they did not say that the incision would be different. If they aren't doing a vaginal delivery with a breech baby (which, many OBs won't these days), they wouldn't necessarily be inducing you then.
I was totally freaking out about having an "emergency" c/s if I went into labor prior to my scheduled c/s, but it really isn't a big deal. My dr said they wouldn't knock me out, it would be the same procedure as it would have been for my scheduled c/s as long as all was good.
Dumb question here!!
Did they do an ultrasound to tell your baby is breech or do they just feel your abdomen?
I was just curious. I would love to know which direction my LO is facing.
Mine was through ultrasound that they found out, at 27 weeks, then they kept checking through u/s from that point on and she still hasn't flipped.
However, now I know how to feel where her head is - it's always above my belly button. I've only ever felt kicks down low, too, so I know she's never turned around.
re: feeling baby.
where do you feel kicks? i only feel them low or to the side. plus i feel a giant coconut above my belly button that is her head. ultrasound confirmed coconut is her head.
I really don't see any reason why they need to induce you and why you can't go into labor on your own. My sister's baby was footling breech, which is more dangerous (feet first). Her doctors wouldn't even discuss an induction or scheduled c-section until she hit 39 weeks. She was just given different instructions for labor--go to the hospital sooner than someone with a head-down baby. They did not try to do a version either (but it wouldn't have helped, turned out her baby was stuck in her ribs).
In her case, her water broke at 37w2d at 7:45am. She went to the hospital and there was no rush to get the baby out. In fact, her c-section kept being bumped by emergencies that needed to go first. Baby was eventually born via c-section at 2:05pm. She had only just started having painful contractions at that point.
So I don't think there's a reason to schedule an early c-section, just get to the hospital as soon as labor starts vs waiting until contractions are five minutes apart.
