Hey ladies - I hope you don't mind me popping in over here w/a question. DH & have done 4 IUIs and are prepping for ER for IVF #3 and I'm already ahead of myself!
We have never achieved a pregnancy and in the midst of our 7th IF treatment - I'm getting desperate. Our first IVF we transfered 2, and our 2nd we only had one to transfer. This time - if we have three - I am thinking about transfering all three (and of course freezing whatever might be left).
My fear is that I am 5' 2 and weigh about 105lbs. I have a VERY petite frame. How can one be worried that none would work and too many would work all at the same time? I wonder if my body could handle trips (and I am so torn over reduction - I always thought that I was firmly against it until I thought about it in terms of saving one or two of my children).
Can you share your twin/trip stories? How many did you transfer? What grades/quality were they? How was/is your pregnancy? And anything else that I don't know to ask that you want to share! ![]()
Thanks ladies ![]()
Re: Twins & trips w/IVF - come in!
Well, we transferred three. We made that decision in part because of my age and also because of embryo quality. I had one good embryo and two embryos with a lot of fragmentation. I obviously ended up with twins but I was nervous about the possibility of triplets. My RE had strongly recommended reduction if we ended up with triplets because of my size (5'1" and 105lbs) and also because of another unrelated issue. Like you I don't know that I could have gone through with a reduction. This was our last treatment and after a lot of discussion with my husband and my RE, we decided to go forward with transferring the three embryos.
I was fortunate to have a very easy pregnancy. I ended up going the full 38 weeks. My OB decided to schedule a C-section at that point because Baby B was breech and much bigger than Baby A.
Good luck with whatever you decide. And good luck with your transfer.
Hi,
I got pregnant with my trips on IVF #2. For my first IVF, we transferred two perfect 5 day blasts and ended up with nothing but a chemical pregnancy. My dh and I have no fertility issues except I have no fallopian tubes. So no egg/sperm problems.
For IVF # 2 we were really torn about how many to transfer. On day 5, we had 7 blasts to choose from. Our quality was just as good if not better than IVF #1. We decided to let my RE make the call on transferring two or three. My DH and I had many discussions on how many we were willing to carry should it happen. We had decided that triplets would be our limit and beyond that, we'd reduce.. although it would be devastating, we wanted a healthy pregnancy for me and the babies. So if my RE wanted to do three, we would. My RE choose three for a few reasons.
1. IVF is the only way I can get pregnant.
2. I just turned 35
3. I had already had one failed IVF with perfect blasts.
In the end, two stuck and one split into identical twins. The first question out of my RE's mouth was: "how tall are you again? What do you weigh?" I am 5'8 and was a size 10-12 pre-pregnancy. So, we were confident I could handle triplets. It was a scary shock. I'll be honest. We were freaking out. You just never think it's going to happen to you. SO my best advice is not to transfer more than you are willing to carry unless you will go through with reduction.
As for my pregnancy, it was about as good as it gets for a triplet pregnancy. I did have several trips to labor and delivery for pre-term labor stuff between 16-23 weeks. I had to stop working at 23 weeks and spent the rest of my pregnancy on bedrest/modified house arrest. I spent 3 days in the hospital at 22 weeks. I managed to stay out of the hospital again until I hit 32 weeks and in the end I delivered at 33 weeks, 6 days. My boys were all out of the NICU in one weeks time. Again.. it doesn't get any better than my pregnancy with triplets. My Ob actually joked I was born to carry triplets. But just be aware that my experience is probably 1 in 100 triplet pregnancies.
I was L.U.C.K.Y. I attribute it to the 10 weeks of bedrest or I never would have made it that far.
So just choose wisely. Just when you think triplets won't happen to you.. you never know!
My girlfriend is 4'11, and 90lbs. She just had twins. Born at 34 weeks. She did great! Your body will be able to accomodate. Look at the people that have sextuplets! Even though they might be average size... that is 6 babies!
My IVF # 2 I transffered 3 embies, and got twins.
Good Luck!
We also transferred 3 due to my age (37 at the time) and embryo quality. Initially all 3 implanted and my RE talked to me about reduction - I am only 4'11". I struggled with that thought for a very long week between u/s and knew that there was no way I could go through with it - as scared as I was of trying to carry triplets on my small frame. We ended up losing Baby C at 9 weeks.
I had a lot of spotting in my first trimester but otherwise had a very uneventful pregnancy. It did get very hard to get around in the last few months - I was taken out of work at 33 weeks and while not on official bed rest, I couldn't do a whole lot. Walking or standing for any length of time was difficult. But I went to 37 weeks 3 days with 2 healthy babies.
Good luck - I hope this IVF is the one for you!
I actually transferred four on the advice of my RE, because of my age (39 at the time) I thought it was a nuts, but I had also said I'd be ok with selective reduction if necessary. We were paying out of pocket for our IVF cycle and I didn't think I could go through it more than once, physically, emotionally and financially, so we decided to go for it. They were four perfect 8-cells. We also ended up having one to freeze.
I am 5'2" and was 118 lbs when I started. So far I've had not too hard a time carrying twins, but I would not have wanted triplets.
We transferred two five-day embryos, that were near perfect quality. They both took. I personally would not have transferred three because there is no way we could financially handle it.
GOOD LUCK with whatever you decide!
We transferred 3 embryos, only one stuck and split into identical twins. I'm 18 weeks pg, and so far it has been a picture-perfect pregnancy. What does your RE say about your chance of triplets? Mine said our chance of triplets were only 1% and our chance of twins was 30-40%.
I'm 5'3 1/2" and started out weighing 115 pounds (up to 129 now). Other than it being harder now to bend over with the bump and needing a little more sleep than normal, I feel fine and normal. Of course, I realize I'm going to be huge in the spring so maybe I should answer this question again then.
