Let's talk 50 S.hades of G.rey for a second

I'm only about 35% through this book and I really just don't get it. I hate him and think he's the biggest douche-bag-slime-ball I've ever read about. Not because he likes k.inky s.ex, but because he's totally manipulating a week and naive woman. Am I missing something or does something change? I'm having a hard time reading it right now and having an even harder time understanding why so many women think it's fantastic...please enlighten me so I can keep reading!

I haven't read it yet. I've seen VERY mixed reviews about it. I didn't want to spend $12 on a book I might not be able to read all the way through it.

I downloaded a free excerpt on my nook and didn't get past 2 pages because the writing style irked me. I didn't even get to anything kinky.

I hear ya...I'm at a standstill on chapter 13. I'm gonna make myself finish the book but I don't see a second or third in my future, unless something drastically turns...

Yes, he does get better. Also, u gain more insight into his past.

I can't bring myself to read these and I even received free copies. It's not about the sex, they just sort of sound like the type of book that gets tons of hype and there's not much substance to them.

I read them within 3 days. I am not afraid to admit I really liked them, but mostly the 2nd and 3rd. In the first you could tell that she was a fan of Twilight who just started writing. But her writing gets better over the next two books. I will not lie, I am a sucker for well written sex scenes, and I think she does an especially good job with sex scenes. It is everything in-between that she has trouble with. I would never say that they are great books, or recommend them to everyone. But I have recommended them my girlfriends that I know would be into the themes, and they have all liked it so far.

Definitely not great literature, but I was totally hooked.

I definitely didn't mean to imply there's anything to be embarassed about in enjoying these books. I was/am just hoping that this man becomes more tolerable. The sex scenes are quite...interesting and actually very well written, I just feel like my heart is breaking for this poor girl. I really want to like him too, but I hate him. I just want him to be like her the way she is.

U will, his douche quotient drops considerably as u continue the series...and he has copper hair like i do lol. (I found it odd that this was mentioned every 5th page

I am a self proclaimed book snob and I'm reading these books. They are not great literature by any stretch of the imagination and the writing makes me nuts. Also, the co-dependent nature of their relationship irks the crap out of me. Yet, still I read. I'm on book 3 at the moment. It is getting a little easier, but his over-protective, controlling nature makes me cringe for sure. But Bella's response to Edward in the Twilight books did the same thing. I am just not that kind of person.

THIS totally. I thought the writing style was a bit elementary too. And while I'm all for an alpha male type, CG made me roll my eyes...often.
