How big/how far out are you buying mat clothes?

I bought some super cute maxi dresses at Gap this weekend but exchanged them for a bigger size... which seem huge, but I am definitely not shrinking, lol. I am also worried about being able to find summer things when it is super hot. What are you doing? Buying some things a bit too big or just hoping for the best and buying as you go???

  • I'm buying as I go for now. I'm in denial that I'll likely be whale-like during the hottest parts of the year.

I am having a hard time finding dresses that are both comfortable and vaguely work appropriate.

  • A little of both.  I'm trying to buy things that have a bit of "give" in the fabric.

  • I bought a few summer things, not realizing how much bigger I'd be at this point than I was with DS - I'm already starting to outgrow some stuff.  I need to go buy some more tops especially, but I'm waiting until I'm out of work for the summer (one more week!) so I can take my time & go without DS.

  • I've just been buying summer maternity clothes.  I have fall/winter stuff from my pregnancy with DS, so I don't really need anything for then.  I think I just bought the last of what I'll need today.  Most maternity shirts I've been buying still have quite a bit of room in them so I'm not too worried about them lasting through the whole summer.  Maybe I'm naive, but I never needed to size up or buy more with my last pregnancy.

  • Just buying as I go. I recently just got a box of maternity clothes from my cousin, who is about the same size as me. She was due 11/2 last year, so she would have been a month behind where I am, but I'll be able to use most of it thankfully. None of the stuff I had with DS fits since I started off 32 lbs lighter this pregnancy and it was a completely different season.

I live in South FL so there isn't really a difference between the fall and summer maternity wear since it's always hot. I've just been buying stuff as I go and that I find on sale.
  • I'm buying as I go as well.  I'm hoping to still be able to fit in regular dresses that have a bit more flow this summer but we'll see.

I'm 18 weeks and just went maternity clothes shopping this weekend because i wasn't fitting into any of my non-pregnancy clothes.  I got some stuff that i'm hoping will keep fitting me and most of my tops have some room for growth... i think you have to balance it out a little...
  • none of my stuff from my last pregnancy works since it was different seasons and I was carrying two.

I've been buying stuff as I need it. Today I got two maternity tanks and two non maternity skirts at target. I bought a swimsuit from ON a few weeks ago. I try to buy non maternity things as much as possible so I can possibly reuse them again next year. With maxi dresses and skirts being so in this summer, it's pretty easy to find stuff cheap that I can wear postpartum.

I really only go out to playgroups and then in my yard with the kids, so I don't have to worry about having a full wardrobe which is awesome this time around.

  • I hardly bought anything with my last pregnancy since I was loaned maternity clothes from a friend.  She has given them to me this time (they've taken more permanent measures to ensure their family is done) but I can tell my body shape is very different this time.  I'm going to need to buy some things even though it's the exact same season.  It's just not in the budget right now.

Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!

  • I'm still wearing some longer shirts that I had from last season, but I'm loving switching over to maternity dresses and pants already. Just went to a bbq yesterday in a cute Motherhood dress I found at Macy's and lapped up the compliments from family and friends. Plus, it's all super comfortable... I don't know why we die for fashion, but going as long as I can without zippers or buttons makes me one happy girl.

I did get one of those Bella Bands or whatever they're called so I can keep wearing my jeans and work pants for as long as possible... but I've worn it exactly one time so far. It worked out, just enjoying dresses as it gets warmer.

I think it's best to wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable, and most confident.

I just bought a few pants (capris and light fabric pants) and a few shirts, Im iffy about the shirts and Im gonna buy as I go because I have no idea how huge I will get and believe me when I say i all ready feel huge in the bump area. With the pants they are all prego pants so I hope I wont need to buy more of them.

  • I can already wear all of last year's sundresses and maxi dresses. The maxi skirts look crazy on me with my belly (and i'm afraid of wearing super high heels at this moment,) so I left those skirts in the back of the closet for now.

AT Motherhood Maternity last week I just bought a few dresses and shirts to wear right now. And from ann taylor loft maternity online, I bought a skirt and capri pants to wear when I turn into a watermelon. I have no idea how big I'll get. But, the clothes were on sale, so I took a chance. Granted, my clothes now versus the bigger clothes are enormously different. so we'll see.

I also found the CUTEST dresses at Target. They're not maternity dresses. They are sundresses by xhileration. $15 each. They are in the teen section (i'm petite) and they have elastic for the area right under your bosom and the rest of the dress flairs out in a perfect a line. They're perfect for work because I can pair wit a suit jacket, pop the collar and put on heels. Then for after work, I can pull on some flip flops, take off the jacket and they're sexy little dresses with their bright colors. Hubby loves them. So easy. But I'm not very busty and I'm VERY stomach-y. See if you can find some. I found them to be a good investment and they are very of the moment in terms of fashion.

  • I'm buying as I go.  I bought a few things this weekend, some dresses (which have room) and a few shirts most that will last till birth and some that may not, but I really needed work and weekend clothes since it's so hot already and DD1 was a winter pregnancy.  don't go crazy, you don't know how big you'll be towards the end, how and where you'll carry, etc.  At the end of my pregnancy with DD1 I bought maybe 2 pairs of dress pants and a pair of jeans and most of my tops held out.
