Reviews/Thoughts on Ubbi draper pails?

Hi ladies,

I've heard mixed reviews on the diaper genie and diaper champ, which is making me lean towards something else. Has anyone tried (or have a friend who has tried) the new steel Ubbi diaper pails? I like the colors, they are more expensive (almost double, quite frankly), but if it contains the odors, I'm sold! I've been looking for reviews online, but the product is still new and all I am finding next to nothing out there. Thanks in advance for any knowledge you guys have.

  • that is a cool looking diaper pail, but I am using the munchkin one we won, oddly after DD potty trained.  Also, the munchkin one takes regular bags, which I like.

  • I have a Diaper Dekor Plus that I've been using for a little over four months now and I love it.  It looks nice, is the more compact oval shape, and I have never been able to smell the dirty diapers.  Plus it's only about $10 more than the Diaper Genie.

This, except I've been using it for 5+ months and sometimes I notice an odor when I drop a diaper in if the bag is full and needs to be emptied.   Honestly, I probably would've considered the Ubbi diaper pail if it was available when I was looking.  It costs more, but you'll pay less on refills.  However, I'm happy with the Diaper Dekor Plus.

  • I dream about getting one :)  I don't have one - but I can tell you this... many parents I consulted that have kids over a year said all the plastic pails (any of them - munchkin, arm and hammer, dekko.. etc) begin to smell after awhile - the actual pail - its the plastic.  I can vouch for plastic starting to absorb odors as i have cats and have this issue with cat pans and trash cans we use for the disposal.

We are combining our cat litter scooping with diapers in one bin so we opted for the simple human $39.99 can from Bed bath and beyond.  I would have done the Ubbi (and man I still want to) but the opening hole size scared me especially when looking at using it for cat scooping!

I have two friends that have gone this route (with the simple human) and have had no issues as its all metal.

  • I just ordered it from PamperedTot.com!  I initially ordered it in the grey but they called me today to say that was back-ordered to the end of the month, so I switched to the "Hot Blue."  I just don't think it's been around long enough to get the definitive scoop on whether it holds the stink in, but to me having a metal can just makes more sense.  The design also makes more sense to me than regular stainless steel step can (like SimpleHuman) because unlike a lid that flaps up and down and acts essentially like fan airing all the dirty business out into the room, the nastiness is likely to be better contained.  We're planning on keeping the baby in our room for the first year, and the changing table is a few feet away from my side of the bed, so smell containment is a *huge* deal for me ;).
