Escaped Induction Once, But...

I was scheduled for induction on Friday because my OB doesn't want me to hit 41w due to my age. I confess, I was all kids of psyched up to not be pregnant anymore! But, when I called in, I got bumped and my induction was cancelled. I felt relief that I had a 4 day reprieve. I thought for sure I'd go into labor on my own. Now, two of those days are gone, and this little monster shows no intention of coming out. He's still active as all heck. He won't stay in launch position. And, I just have this mental image of him in there with his hands braced against my pelvis saying, "Hell, no, I won't go! Hell, no, I won't go!"

I told myself at the beginning if I had to be induced, I wasn't going to be super woman. I'd play the pain by ear, but I wouldn't refuse an epidural if I couldn't handle it. I just really want this guy to come out on his own. He obviously has other ideas. No questions, I guess. Just needed to dump out the disappointment on having my little Alien muck up my plans for his start in the world. I still have 45 hours to go into labor on my own...it can happen, right?

  • I understand the frustration!  Hang in there.  It can happen on its own.  I was scheduled for an induction at 42weeks and thought DD would never come out.  I was supposed to be at the hospital at 8am for the induction.  Talk about cutting it close, but this girl decided to finally show signs of coming a few hours before we were supposed to be at the hospital.  Contractions started about 4am that morning on their own.  We left for the hospital at 6:30am, arrived a little after 7:00am, and she was born at 7:24am.

  • A few things. First of all, labor can come out of NOWHERE. I went to sleep at 11 pm convinced my son was never coming out and woke up at 3 am when my water broke.

Second, I completely sympathize with your hesitation to induce, but just in case in comes to that, how does your cervix look? Has your OB done an internal at this point? If your already dilated a little and your cervix is softening and ripening on it's own, an induction  is not the end of the word and has a decent chance of success. I'd just hate to see you go into it assuming it's not going to work. Induction =/= c-section.

  • I was 4cm dilated at last check, 50% and -2. I'm a good candidate. It's part of the reason she went ahead and scheduled the induction. For whatever reason, neither he nor I are kicking off full labor. It starts and stops and starts and stops and so on and so on. The biggest question is what HE'LL do. I'm hoping he'll finally cooperate.

Well that should put your mind at ease. I really hope things kick into gear on their own, it sounds like your body is on its way there, hang in there!
