I was very close to my grandmother who has passed away. If we have a girl, I would like to honor my grandmother with my daughter's middle name. The problem is that her name was Maizie and I'm not really a fan of the name. Her middle name also doesn't work for a different reason. Any ideas?
Also, do you all think it's strange to use a middle name of a living friend?
Re: honoring granny
I also like Maisie as an option. Or you could do Mae.
I don't think it's strange to honor someone living- I think that's pretty special!

What about using Mae as a middle name? It begins the same as Maizie, and I think it would still work for honoring your grandmother.

Interesting.
I plan on doing the same, but my only glitch is that it's MY middle name as well (Elizabeth) and it's wierd to me to name a kid with my name... It's a beautiful name & I love when others use it for their kids, so it's probably just me, but it feels selfish when there are so many other great names to choose from.
Anyway, alternatives we came up with were a different train of thought, but still tied to her. She was born in June, so her birthstone was a pearl. The names we then selected from were ones that meant or pertained to a pearl (coincidentally, Greta was one of them
)
We've also considered using June - a lot of other months could work too. What about her favorite flower, or color or scent? Think about things that make you think of her, and things about her that you love, or traits you want your daughter to carry on...find names that tie to those special things; I'm sure you'll find something you like better than Mae - IMO ANYTHING with Mae as a middle name sounds totally bumpkin, so I agree with you. Good luck
This. DDs mn is Johanna, after my grandmother. I don't love (or really even like) the name, but I loved my grandma and wanted to honor her. We rarely say her full name, most people probably don't know it, but I know its there and that makes me smile because I feel like she carries a little piece of my grandma.
Love the names Willa and Greta. Mae would be a great alternative, but I agree it might sound too country-ish. I do like Margaret though.
Willa Margaret sounds lovely.
Greta Margaret has too many of the same syllables. You could go with Greta Mary or Greta Marie.
