How do I get my happy baby good sleeper back?

Ever since ds' surgery he has had an awful time separating from me, screams his head off. Doesn't go down well for naps, stands in his crib crying. Same for night time. And now he wakes in the middle of the night to nurse. He hadn't done that since like 8wks old. How do I get my happy, good sleeping, not screaming his head off baby back? Help!

  • I'm if no help...going through the exact same thing. He Goes down easily at night but sometimes wakes himself up at night and has a massive poop diaper. The only way to calm him down is nurse. Yuck!  But my change in patterns is due to teething and diarrhea...sorry about your surgery experience!!

I'm just praying we'll get through it and am determined not to feed him at night anymore. We hadn't done it in moths either... Ugh

  • We had to do middle of the night feedings for a few weeks before B got tubes last week...it was the only thing that would calm him down, and after 5 back-to-back double ear infections just since April, we didn't mind it.  His first night after tubes wasn't fun - we had to pull out the baby swing, which we hadn't used in ages.  We're lucky, the Graco Sillhouette swing goes to 30lbs.  Would a swing help calm him down until he's out, then you can transfer him to the crib?  That's what we had to do, because sitting up really helped him until he was out. I know it's not ideal for sleep training, but if he's recovering from surgery, you sometimes do what you gotta do, right?
  • he will fall asleep on me nursing in the rocker but then as soon as I move to put him in his bed only a few steps away he wakes up and starts crying.  When we were in the hospital after the first 2 nights he wouldn't sleep anywhere but on me or next to me.

  • Sorry to hear he's having such a rough time =(  That's so hard on everyone when LO isn't happy or well.  Is he attached to you and being held, or being in an upright position?

  • being held or nursed and rocked to sleep.  As soon as I move him to put him in bed he wakes and gets mad.  Tonight though he fell asleep nursing and I was able to put him to bed okay, like we used to before surgery so hopefully this is a turning point.
