disposable swim diapers - the things I learn!

My grandmother would always reuse the little swimmers on my cousins - and my mom and I were just laughing yesterday at how gross and crazy this was. Well, I started going google crazy and found out that people think that the pee doesn't stay in the diaper - it's only to hold in poop and so reusing it is "ok" because it's not soiled unless it's pooped. Then I saw things about people washing them to make them last longer. Well - my interest was peaked and I'm sorry to inform the people - but the little swimmers DO hold in pee! I dried DD's out yesterday and took a whiff and it smelled STRONGLY of urine! I wasn't planning to reuse it anyway - but then I thought about the washing part...I was doing laundry anyway, so I threw it in. I was so sure I'd pull it out in pieces! Nope! Came out looking the same way it went in, except smelling delightful! Looks like I will be reusing it since its clean now! I guess the other moms weren't so crazy after all.

  • Good to know. How big is your LO? DD is only 13lbs and I didn't think they would fit her.

  • No WAY!! I'm totally washing them from now on.

I was wondering the same thing. The disposables say they start at 16 lbs and I'm worried they'll be huge on our little guy.

  • DD is about 14 lbs, the diapers look really silly but they're not so big they fall off. Plus we have a one piece bathing suit and I think that helps with keeping the diaper on!

  • For the person who asked about size.  I have huggies little swimmers size small and my LO was in the 8th percentile for weight at the last check and I estimate him to be 12 pounds or so.  The diaper is huge.  It would not hold anything in.

I'm hoping the iPlay diaper arriving this week fits better!

Why not try cloth? If you are washing disposables anyway...

My scale says she's 14 pounds - but she may be close to 15 now and the smalls fit her great! They just go up really high but fits her legs perfectly!

And I probably will get a cloth one eventually. We just don't have one yet and this will at least make these last til we get one
