Aching hips

For the past week or so, I have noticed that my hips are aching terribly by about 4:00 AM. I sleep with a pillow between my knees most of the night, but this doesn't seem to be helping that problem. I finally got up this morning around 5:00 and laid down in my recliner to rest on my back rather than my sides. That helped some, but I didn't actually get any more sleep. Thankfully, getting up and walking around makes the pain go away (until I lay down again). Have any of you experienced this and found anything that helps? (I know it's just a few more weeks at most, but I would love some relief!)

Re: Aching hips

  • I've had achy hips at night for a couple of months now. Other than a pillow, the only thing that really helps is changing sides occasionally and remembering to stretch my legs out - they automatically bend a little when I'm on my side, but I've noticed that when I make an effort to straighten them my hips feel better sometimes.

  • I've been having this problem for quite awhile now. The only thing that "helps" is pillow between the knees and changing which side I'm laying on often. Sometimes I put the pillow under my hips.

  • The pillow is your best bet. I just find that I am constantly uncomforable, and no matter what I can not find a good position.

This was me last night (or early this morning I should say). My hips have been hurting off and on for the past several weeks but last night was excruciatingly painful. I kept flopping from side to side but it didn't help much. I don't recall having hip pain with my first two babies. :(

  • Dude, I have the same exact problem.  It feels like someone is poking a dull pencil into my hip sockets.  I was told that hip stretches helps- where you bend one leg at the knee and rest your foot across your other knee, then bend over (I have to do this standing at the edge of the bed because of my giant belly).  Basically your body looks like a bent over giant number 4.

It does help in the moment, but for me it hasn't prevented it from happening or cured it.  5 more days!

  • Yep, aching hips at night is my biggest physical complaint (thankfully it doesn't last through the day like it did with #1). I sleep with a pillow between my knees and change sides frequently.

  • If you can, try to take a long bath before bed. I find that if I do that, I don't wake up at 4 in pain, though I do have to get up then to pee.

  • I get relief from a pillow between my knees as well as a long pillow behind my back/butt. I kind of wedge it underneath my back and rear end to change what part of my hip I am laying on.

     Hope that helps.
