Why do dogs love pacifiers?

I mean, seriously!  What the frik?  We have to guard Ben's pacifiers or she will steal them.  If she gets a hold of one, she licks and nibbles it (and then we have to throw it away).  I don't get the endless fascination!!!  We watch them very carefully and keep a count of how many we have so we always know if any go missing.  Friends of friends had a dog that ate six or eight of them and then had to have surgery.  We definitely don't want to go that route!!!  Silly puppy.

    Our golden is the same way...so frustrating! He hasn't eaten any yet, but definitely likes to chew on them! We just bought DS a Sophie the Giraffe, and I have caught the dog staring longingly at it on more than one occasion. We'll have to guard it fiercely!

    My dog has a weird obsession with pacifiers too. She just seems confused about what they are though. She doesn't lick them or try to chew on them. She picks it up, puts it back down, then stares at it, and repeat over and over.
    MIL's dogs like to chew on the rubber.

    My one dog loves DS's shoes. I think I've bought 3 pairs of sandals already this summer for him. Ugh. He'll even climb on the table to get them!

    Ha! Ours don't care about pacifiers but a lot of other baby tots look so much like dog toys... Like Sophie the giraffe! I can't blame them too much for getting confused. Honestly their fave is the activity mat though...they could both play (then map) on it all day!

    Our dog didn't pay attention to them, but our cat LOVED the gum drop ones! DD never really took pacis though so I just ended up leaving them out for the cat to play with :P
