Is my 3 month old behind on Tummy Time?

I do tummy time with my 3-month-old and he can lift his head but he can't prop himself up with his arms. He will sometimes use his arms to lift himself but he barely lifts himself. Is this normal? He's able to roll over when he's on his tummy but its because he pushes himself over with his legs. Its like he has no muscle in his arms.

Every baby moves at his pace. It sounds like if he is lifting his head and using his legs, then he's on the right track. I wouldn't worry unless your dr gives you reason to worry. If there's one thing I've learned from this board, it's to try not to compare my baby with others, because I'll just end up worrying that she's behind.

  • My dd is doing about the same as yours. She hates tummy time so it turns into a screamfest after about 2 minutes. She has good head control when we hold her though.

  • My LO is the same....just lays there and kicks like mad. He will lift his head up a little bit but then he just screams and screams...he has really good neck control when seated upright so i'm not concerned with that. I just wish he would learn to love tummy time!

  • Ben doesn't like to extend his arms during tummy time or practicing sitting.  He just keeps his little elbows bent most of the time.  So, he'll pull himself up onto his elbows during tummy time and just hang out.  They'll all figure it out soon enough.  Just keep putting him on his tummy and he'll work it out.

  • I have a picture of my DD propping herself up with her arms at about 5 wks old.... But now she can't do that anymore, and hasn't in a while.  I don't know if her head has gotten heavier or what????
