Special Needs

Had our in-home visit with EI

for our youngest. It went well. She saw what I have been-that he's delayed in his speech development. She did the MCHAT and it doesn't look like he has autism, but because his older brother is on the spectrum, she wants to ask her supervisor if he should have a more comprehensive assessment. Will get my appointment date for the assessment next week and still need to get the referral signed by his doctor and faxed to our EI. Things haven't changed much since I went through this with our older son.

Re: Had our in-home visit with EI

  • Glad you had the eval and I hope the speech services kick start his language development. My DS has been getting speech therapy and DI for 9 months now and he is almost at age level for expressive language and ahead for receptive. I don't think he'd ever be there without his EI therapists.

I hope further evaluations go well.

  • I would want a more thorough evaluation rather than just a screening in a child with a family hx and delays that are significant emough for EI.

Thank you for your input, Auntie. I didn't realize that some kids with ASD can pass the M-CHAT but, it was my thought that a thorough screening would be good anyway to be safe. I really don't want him to fall through the cracks. He only has 2 words that he says regularly and maybe 3 or 4 more occasional words. He mostly hums. Once in awhile he'll baby-babble, but he should be far beyond that by this age.
