I'm a FTM with a due date of June 7th. I had a horrible stomach big
start early Thursday morning and last until noon that day. Friday
morning I woke up with mild contractions, called the dr thinking it was
just dehydration and went to get checked, at 8:30am I was not dilated or
effaced, my cervix was soft and the baby was low. I went home and
continued to have contractions throughout the afternoon. I kept telling
my mom and sister they seemed to be getting really painful and stayed 10
min apart exactly all day, this couldn't be just dehydration plus I was
pumping myself with fluids. They slowed down around 8pm and I was able
to relax until they started again at 10 pm out of nowhere. My water
ended up breaking at 11:30pm and the contractions instantly went to 5-4
min apart.
We got to L&D within 15-20 min, all the while I was gripping the
car door with contraction pain. Once registered and in the room the
contractions were kicking my butt. They checked me and to all of our
surprise I was fully dilated and effaced and ready to push.I had no
plans whatsoever to have a natural birth, but too late at that point. I
started pushing at about 12:30am,but my contractions were stalling at 5
min because she was face up. They gave me some pictocin after pushing
for 1 hr to help speed it along. Once the contractions started coming
closer I was able to push her within the hour and had Lydia Ruth at
3:46am Saturday, 5/26. I was 38w1d pregnant so she was a bit of a peanut
still at 6lbs 4oz 17.5". Baby and I are doing great!
Moral of the story- if something doesn't seem right just call the
dr. Even though I'm glad I proved to myself I could do a natural birth,
it was scary when reality of it set in after planning on an epidural
for 9 months. If it wasn't for her being face up the dr said there was a good chance I could have had her in the car or at home.
