If I had this to do over again, I'd just buy a convertible seat and skip the infant carrier. Aria is super heavy in it already, and she wants out as soon as we're inside anywhere(as in, will scream bloody murder if left in it). There's been several times I've just left the seat in the car and put her in the stroller when we go in somewhere. The convenience of the infant carrier is already dwindling. If we have a #2 in a few years, I'm skipping the darn thing.
Ive started looking at convertible seats already... Anyone else? Any recommendations?
Re: Carseat hindsight is 20/20...
Here's the conclusion that I came to after hours and hours of research. No car seat can do three things well. Who or what can?
I personally just felt that she was safest as a newborn in a traditional seat. When she is big enough/old enough. We got this one:

FWIW - E doesn't love her seat either. Most of the time that we go out I wrap up in the Moby before we even get in the car. That way when she bails on the car seat (usually within ten minutes or so) I can just put her in the Moby and use the car seat/stroller as a shopping cart.
My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy. Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.
I actually really like our infant carrier, but I think that is because Ben does really well in it. He'll just chill out if we bring him somewhere in it. It pops on our stroller so that is easier than actually getting him into the stroller separately (plus, I still like to see him). I also like that I can probably get away with using it up until he is around a year (it goes to 30 lbs. and is long) - though I imagine it will just stay in the car once he starts approaching the 20 lb. mark and we'll just put him in there.
Since the above is of no help..
... we have a Britax infant carrier and stroller and absolutely love them. When it is time to buy our convertible car seat, we will 99% likely to stick with that brand. I would definitely recommend Britax.

I thought about that, but chances are #2 won't arrive until the seat is already expired. Also, (I saw your second post
) Our seat is a Graco, and it's the slick, "silky" (as the hubs calls it) material. Aria gets SO hot in it, and I think that's part of why she hates it. I don't want to put anything between the seat and the baby tho, since it's a pretty big no-no...
After reading all these pps, I guess I have to agree that no car seat is perfect!:/

Yes, that is something you do not understand when you have your 1st baby and I have tried to tell other 1st time moms but always get a funny look. The carseat companies have done a rock star job at making the public think they need an infant seat.
I love, love love, Britax Marathons. They will last until you need a booster and are easy to transfer from car to car.
Swallowing up newborns is another reason I love my convertible- it comes with an infant insert and has a lumbar pillow, head pillow, and shoulder strap covers, so even straight from the hospital DD has been snug as a bug in it. Her head doesn't even flop around or look uncomfortable when she's asleep.
I think the biggest issue with babies and being hot is that when they face backwards the AC can't get to them very well. We're trying to figure out how to set up one of the car fans you can buy so that it helps circulate the air to her but isn't a safety hazard.
