You mommies gave me some great advice on my other post, so I came back again seeking insight!!
So after reading a previous post, I had some thoughts on what can/would/might/should happen. I know some of these are probably questions that are best directed at my birthing center, but since they aren't taking patients < 24wks, I'm stuck playing the waiting game. So here are my questions. Personal experiences and any general knowledge/pointers in the right direction are greatly appreciated!!
1.I'm due Nov. 21... the day before Thanksgiving this year. How does this affect us?
2. What happens when I go past my due date? Will they induce me?
3. Do I make an appointment for my due date or does it work like the hospital? (Call the doula/MW and let her know it's go time)
I know these seem like stupid questions, but since they can't really give me answers at the given moment, I'd like to hear what you all have to say
Thanks in advance ladies!!
Re: back again, to ask more newbie questions :)
For all your questions, the answers really depend on your care provider. One would hope that being due the day before Thanksgiving doesn't affect anything. Babies come when babies come and hospitals should roll with that regardless of holidays. Sometimes it means you get less senior staff or staff who like working holidays.
Going passed your due date sometimes means pressure to induce or to do non-stress tests. It greatly depends on your CP. Some will let you go to 41 weeks, some to 42. Some are like "let's do this thing" at 39, which is the ACOG's minimum gestation recommendation for inducing, and some even earlier.
I'm not sure what you mean with #3. Do you want to be induced on your due date?

well generally, i guess question 2 and three may be similar. it was more so to ask if at a birthing center they induce you ON your due date or just wait until LO is ready to come out on his/her own.
I know hospitals and birthing centers work differently, so I thought I'd ask.
I can't imagine that you can get an induction at a birthing center. Most likely if they suggest an induction (hopefully not because you have simply reached an ESTIMATED due date), then you would be transfered to a hospital.
As I said above- due dates are just estimates. I personally would never consider an induction based on date reasons (non-medical IMO). What if your dates are off and your baby is simply not ready?
Both of my girls were born well after their EDDs and I am really glad they were able to come when they were really ready.

I can answer your questions based on our center but I agree that you'd have to ask them directly for the real answers for you.
1.I'm due Nov. 21... the day before Thanksgiving this year. How does this affect us? I was due Dec 8 with this most recent baby. I was having pre-term labor type contractions on my appointment on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I have a "history" of pre-term labor so it was entirely possible in everyone's mind that I would go into labor over the holiday. They have midwives on call then just like any other day. They did suggest calling earlier in labor than I might have otherwise to give them a heads up (one of the on call midwives lives a short distance from the center so she does her call from home and therefore appreciates the extra lead time if possible). They were totally kind and wonderful about the possibility. Little girl ended up staying in there until her due date though.2. What happens when I go past my due date? Will they induce me? At our center they start doing more "natural" things to encourage labor starting on your due date. I don't know all the details because I've never gone over but things like herbs, sex, stripping membranes etc. If you still haven't gone into labor "on your own" by a certain time (42 weeks I think...) then they recommend transferring to an OB for an induction. They don't do inductions at the birth center.3. Do I make an appointment for my due date or does it work like the hospital? (Call the doula/MW and let her know it's go time) You just call when you go into labor. You may have an appointment on your due date because you have them every week at the end, but they won't induce or anything on that day necessarily (see above).
