Co-sleeping and "special adult time"

I'm co-sleeping with my baby and will *hopefully* be getting the all clear for sex on Friday...it wasn't an issue with DD1 because it was already the beginning of the end for my ex and myself... What do I do with my sweet baby during the deed? I really don't know! We have a pack and play and a rock and play, but she really doesn't dig either... Help!

Re: Co-sleeping and "special adult time"

  • I haven't been cleared yet but we do have "our time" which is a bit R rated. DD2 goes into her crib after she falls asleep at her night feeding and is usually good until we are done and I go get her and bring her to bed to sleep.

  • I think you just have to accept that you'll probably be interrupted by the baby until she gets used to sleeping in another place for a little while.

You might have to start thinking out of the box... I know that will be a little challenging since DD1 is older. Could you move DD2 to her pack n' play after she's asleep? How about you guys moving to the floor? My LO sleeps in a RnP right next to my side... I just scoot him on out the door but if we had an older LO it would be much more challenging.

  • The bathroom can be pretty convenient for that.

We don't co-sleep any more (only if she wakes in the middle of the night), but the shower was always a good place for us.

  • This is the reason we are getting this crib https://www.amazon.com/Argington-Organic-Crib-Complete-White/dp/B004M18M30. We're going to be in a 1 bedroom apartment and can wheel the wee one in and out as necessary.
  • We had a tough time with this when DD was very little. She literally would not stay asleep without me next to her, so be patient that it might be a little difficult in the beginning to find time. Our best shot in the early days was when she would occasionally fall asleep in her swing for naps. It got better after a few months and I was able to sneak away for longer bits of time after she fell asleep. We're still bedsharing but now I leave when she fall asleep so we have the whole house to play in. If you plan to keep bedsharing, I'd find some other places to have fun Smile

  • Our kids have always napped in the crib, so weekend nap times are our adult times. It's not a lot of time but I'm usually too tired weekday evenings anyway.

How long did this last? I struggle with evenings because even though DS goes to bed around 7 or 8, I can't stray far to have "me" time because he notices when I'm not there. If I'm in bed with him he'll sleep clear through to 5 am with no problem. I'd like my evenings to consist of more than just reading my nook/surfing the web in bed.

It lasted longer than I wanted lol. I think when she was close to a year things really started to get easier. But every kid is different and I'm sure if I had been a little more proactive I could have done something to expedite it. I used to let her sleep on my lap in a recliner until I was ready for bed watching tv or playing video games.

I know there are some great suggestions in the Dr. Sears baby sleep book and no cry sleep solution (slowly distancing, leaving your scent there, etc.) But the problem kind of took care of itself and I never got around to trying anything. I didn't want to sleep train because I figured sleeping alone was just another milestone she'd reach when she was ready and I was lazy Smile. Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be!

i might get flamed, but we do this too...DS is in a crib, but it's sidecarred to our bed...there is no where else for him to go. Like other PPs, we also use floor, sofa, shower.

LOL I dont care if I get flamed! Its not like LO knows whats going on, just cause I am a parent doesnt mean I cant have a little fun :)

    Yes
  • On the floor, on the couch, on the guest bed...this has seriously never been an issue.  If he's snoozing next to us in bed and we want to do it at night, we tiptoe out of the bed, do our thing, and then come back to bed.  We're also quick to take advantage of nap times.

Real estate is limited in our house, especially with an 8 year old walking around... We'll just have to see if the little miss sleeps through it in one of her bed type situations! She's too little for me to not freak out if she was in the bed with us... ;)

    Thanks all!

DD is a very high needs, must be held at all times type of child (things have gotten better once she learned to crawl(. Add onto that she is a super light sleeper, so "sneaking out" after she was asleep is just laughable.

This current baby was conceived via doggie style in the bed, while DD cried on the ground next to the bed, and I hung over the side making funny sounds to try to distract her. I was ovulating, and a +opk waits for no one, not even a crying baby. Thankfully DH has learned to perform in any scenario.
