Toddlers: 24 Months+

"Totally unacceptable"

The "actually, mom" post made me laugh and so I wanted to share this.  DD has started telling me this when I do anything that she doesn't want me to do.  For example, if she wants to stack the blocks instead of me starting it, she says, "No.  No, mom.  That's unacceptable.  Let Z do."  Sometimes she tells me that things are, "Totally, totally unacceptable" too.  I want to laugh every time.  It's so cute.

I didn't even realize we said it to her, but I guess it started because my mom told her not to pick her nose and said, "picking your nose is unacceptable".  From there, it just stuck.  Now every one says it to each other about everything.

 Edit: typo

Re: "Totally unacceptable"

  • Ha!  My oldest heard a mom on the playground say "ah-ah-ahhhh" to her toddler when she was maybe 12 months, and it stuck with her- finger waggle and all, and like you, it became a staple of family and friends.  Funny the monkey-see/hear, monkey do! I think the thing that cracks me up about actually and unacceptable is how these adult-sounding words sound on sassy toddler tongues!

I know! It's wayy too cute. It never gets old, and I love it so much I almost try to get her to say it sometimes.

  • DD likes to say "that's enough".  I've caught her scolding the dogs and cat quite a few times when they are running around the house playing.  It is so cute what they pick up on.

  • Too cute!  I am loving three!  My daughter has picked up some phrases from school also.  Yesterday, at the park, she said, "Boys and girls, it is time to settle down!"
  • Ughhh I hate when my words come back to bite me. DS was having trouble w/ the big boy bed thing & was crying in his room and started saying-"that's enough mommy, enough!" He also threw "I'm tired of this" at me b/c I was having a rough time w/ their discipline and tantrums at one point and was probably more talking to myself and said "i'm so tired of this" to them...they're like little sponges, AH!
  • That is awesome!!

DS's latest trend is calling things "enormous" "huge" and "ridiculous". We had some rather large slices of watermelon the other day and he said they were "ridiculous huge!"  And we have a couple of friends who are very tall, he says one is "a really big guy" and the other is "REALLY HUGE!"

DD1 has taken to yelling "Give me that!" when she wants something. I didn't even notice I was saying that to her when she was misbehaving. Now I'm watching what I say even more because I HATE that she says that. DH taught her "Pound it" and then she gives a fist bump. It's adorable.
