I went to the doctor on Thurs, I was 38 wks 1 day. My baby is already measuring big, and I have had horiffic asthma attacks including pneumonia during this pregnancy, so she offered to induce me at 39 weeks. After some careful consideration, I decided that I wanted to wait and see if she comes on her own so I declined to schedule one.
Of course later that night, I'm thinking that my doctor might have stripped my membranes. She told me during the exam that she was going to "try to help me out" because I am only a fingertip dialated and my cervix was still very high and thick...and we were both nervous about having to induce me even after 40 weeks.
Since then, I have had many more BH contactions, and noticed a small brown discharge when I would use the restroom. This morning I had alot of brown discharge continuing all morning....and from what I've read, I think that this might be the mucus plug!! Whatever she did, she knocked something loose in there it seems, and I'm wondering if I will have to drive through this tropical storm coming to FL to go L&D this weekend!!
question: Did anyone lose their mucus plug right before labor..or did it still take days or weeks? Right now I just walked around our county fair and I am feeling some serious cramps
Re: Rough exam?
I was checked a couple of days ago and my doc said that the MP may come out. I don't think it is because of the exam.
If she had stripped your membranes, you would be bleeding and it hurts a LOT (the cervical check hurts too, but stripping is way worse).
I've also been about 1/2-1 cm my past two appts. Both times, my OB has said she just barely can't fit her finger through--she's trying to manually stretch me as much as possible, and she's not stripping membranes since she can't get through. I've also had brown discharge. It's dried blood from the internal. She and my doula said to expect some crampiness and BH because she tried to manually stretch me.
my old OB tried to manually stretch me from a fingertip and I will tell you it hurt like hell. You would know. no matter what, if she did strip your membranes yes you should see mucous and maybe blood, but it doesn always mean labor.
Sex works...did for both my kids. Semen is a cervical softner, go for it.
