anyone see the RE at portsmouth naval hospital

we are moving there and I am hesitant because i have heard mixed reviews and had and AMAZING RE at Yale Fertility. I would love to hear other people's experiences

Dr. Shapiro! He is amazing! Not great with emotion, but a very good doctor, who really wants to help! he is at Portsmouth, his nurse is Thelma, and she will ALWAYS remember you! )

Good Luck! If it were not for him, we would not have been able to get in to an IVF clinic so soon after our PCS to CA, and I would not be 29 weeks pregnant right now!

I'm being seen there now.

I've done 2 IUIs and I'm in mid-cycle for our 3rd.

It's Tricare, so it's definitly "no-frills", but I don't have any major complaints and I've been seen there for almost a year and a half.

You will have to get a referral from your PCM and with a move that PCM is going to change, so be prepared to do a little waiting unless your current doctor can put in that referral for you.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions you've got in a PM.

the referral will be easy to get haha i am a medical nightmare and i am in no rush because my husband is deployed. I am just hoping for no more uterus surgery. have either of you had surgery with him? or do they send you out to someone else?

I haven't had any reproductive surgeries. But I've had oral and eye surgery here. Anything you do need done surgically for any ailment you have is going to be done at this hospital. It's huge.

Parking is a b!tch as the garage is just not big enough for everyone, so when you come for appointments, come super early so you have enough time to ride around the garage for a while.

I had 2 surgeries with him on my ovaries, and tubes. He was wonderful, always took care of what i needed, very calm, and did not stress or panick me at all.

It can be a wait, but like PP said if your current doc is available to send over the referral now, you will get in sooner, and its always a good idea to be seen as soon as you can to extablish, and then when your hubby is back you can start your process.

I am assuming your going for baby making help? If so, also ask about Dr. Shapiros IVF program should you need it. He was working to get it started when i was there, but we left first. This way you would not need to go to Walter Reed in DC.

About the parking, AGREED! Plan to have the first appointment of the day or plan to park on the 5th floor of the garage. I find people hate to park there, so there is normally a few spaces.

And yes all surgery you need will be there. it is a very large hospital. They even have an AMAZING NICU which i did not even know about until my girlfriends daughter was taken there. Its about level with CHKD. So they really do have everything!

they cant transfer referrals from different regions so i have to make and appointment with my new pcm when i get one but that is going to be the first thing i do because i have a long list of referrals i need.

Since it is a long wait to get to see him do they see you weekly when you are pregnant up until the 10-12 week mark. this was the protocol at my old RE office and since i have had 5 miscarriages and a very screwed up uterus I have always been seen weekly. At what week does me "graduate" you from him and release you to a regular ob. Do you see a regular ob? I will have to see a high risk one because of my uterus. Does anyone have experience with the high risk ob? haha o promise to take the rest of my questions to PM

When i was seeing Dr Shapiro, he told me he would be the doc to deliver my baby! He would do the WHOLE process with me! But I think it depends on what the schedule is and how busy they are and how much room they have!

Normally you would graduate to an OB around 9-11 weeks, depending on how your US go. And I had one almost every week (work made them a little farther apart) and graduated at 9 weeks. (6-9 weeks)
