I'm starting to worry about being able to keep LO's room cool enough for her. Our house was built in the 80's and the AC works fine on the main and basement levels, but the upstairs never gets quite cool enough. The bedrooms are always a solid 5-8 degrees warmer than the main level. Every room has a ceiling fan, but other than moving the air around, it doesn't seem to do much - certainly not enough to keep it at the recommended 70 degrees (these hot days have been making it close to 80 upstairs!)
Anyone have a similar situation? It's bad enough having to get myself to sleep in a hot room, but I would feel awful if LO had to deal with it too.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Re: Keeping the baby's room cool - any suggestions??
We keep our house at 62. The trick is this, close several vents downstairs, open your vents in the rooms you are using, close the doors to the rooms you aren't (assuming that there isn't a cold air return). Then put your thermostat to the desired temp and turn the recirculating fan into the on position, your temp will regulate more. By running the furnace fan all the time you will notice the need to change your filters more often.
We had horrible air circulation upstairs until we got a new furnace. But, the AC guy that looked at our old model first said the damper going upstairs was partially closed. You might want to check that too, just in case. I didn't know that it was even there.
It was like a door of heat going upstairs at night. Now the whole house is cool, but our room remains the hottest because of the sun coming in all day. We also put blackout roller shades and blackout curtains in the kids' rooms. Partially because of storms and partially to keep the rooms dark for naps/sleep. They sleep with their fans on low and we have a fan in the hallway for extra noise/circulation.
