Blanket or stuffed animal?

Does your LO have a blanket or stuffed animal that he/she has to sleep with? I am reading the No Cry Sleep Solution and she recommends they have a "lovey" to accociate bedtime with. I have tried putting one of those teething blankets with the little stuffed animal on it between us when it nap time or bedtime but he hasn't become attached to it. It would be nice if when he woke up at night and realized it was there he could fall back asleep. Did you push a "lovey" or did your LO become attached on its own?

Re: Blanket or stuffed animal?

  • I never pushed it, for some reason DD just picked it up on her own.  I can't even remember how on earth or Who...started giving her a lovey.  She has a tiny little blanket lovey (hers doesn't have a stuffed animal).  Seriously, I don't remember how we even got started giving it to her.

DS has also started holding his blanket before he sleeps.  He just started it recently.  He's always been a thumb sucker, but for the last 2 months we've been letting him sleep with this really soft furry baby blanket.  Now when I put him down he sucks his thumb and waits for me to give him his blankie.  Then he holds the blankie in his hands near his sucky thumb.  It's so cute.

If you want to get started, you just start giving him the lovey consistently.  Don't push him, just put it beside him when he sleeps, I think eventually he might pick up on it.....or maybe he'll never care.  Either way it doesn't matter.  People survived without loveys :)

  • That's true....I just think it might help. It's so cool you have twins! I always thought that might be fun.

  • We never used it as a lovey, but my baby does have a stuffed elephant we call "mr.peanuts" in his crib =) He likes to tackle him and hug him when he is awake but I don't know about it helping him go back to sleep... LO is a very determined little guy

My daughter has a bunny lovely. It may sound weird, but before I went back to work I slept with the lovey under my shirt so it would smell like me. She took to it immediately and it calmed her down for DH when she was home alone with him. Now she carries it every where with her and she seeks it out at nap times and bed time. Good luck!
