freaking out, wish I had more answers

I've been having on and off contractions on a daily basis (more than 10 an hour) and even had to have them stopped at one point with three shots of turbutaline because they were a minute and a half apart for over an hour. My cervix has been closed so I'm thinking maybe I have an irritable uterus. My question is, can my water still break even though I have a closed uterus? I'm so scared of not knowing when I'll be in labor because I can't go by the 5 min apart, lasting 1 minute contractions rule. I'm mostly scared because I live 1.5 hours from the hospital and I want to make sure I get there in plenty of time. Do I just need to look out for really painful contractions? Do the numbers on the contraction machine mean anything? They were all mostly above 120 and I could barely feel them. I feel like I'm dealing with annoying period cramps all day long, each day. I'm still early, only 35 weeks so they stopped my contractions the last time even though my doctor said that he would've just let me go into labor. He now tells me just to look for signs. Will I perhaps go into labor soon or will I be dealing with constant daily contractions for the next month. Will my cervix never open up and I'll need to be induced or have a c-section? I know nobody has the answers to my questions but it's starting to make me feel very anxious and worried.

    Sorry to hear that you are stressed!  Are your contractions painful, or are they just tightening/a little uncomfortable, ala Braxton Hicks?  I've been having a lot of those and my MW said that it's nothing to worry about, even if they come quickly together.

    You've been checked out by your doc and I'd just listen to him if I were you.  As long as he seems relaxed, I'd try and relax too.  I'm a FTM and not a doctor, but I assume that your water can't break if your cervix is closed.  It will dilate when you are ready. 

    BTW, as someone facing a c-section, it's nothing to worry about.  I was freaking out for a while, but I've done a lot of research on it.  It's very safe and the recovery isn't that bad.  No matter if you have a natural labor, an induction, a c-section, or an unplanned homebirth (has happened to a few people I know) you and baby will be fine.  Try to relax.

    I've been doing some investigating and I guess your water can break even if your cervix is closed, who knows.... I was also told that what I was having wasn't braxton hicks because there were so many, so close together for so long. I'm kind of upset that they gave me that drug because I'm afraid of any side effects to my baby.

    Do you still get a "gush" if your water breaks with a closed cervix?

    I don't know, it wasn't too specific but I suppose it's not so uncommon for FTMs not to have their cervix open and to still have their water break.

    Yikes-- have you called your doctor again since the last time this happened?  I would be worried too.  If your doc is not giving you the info you need to feel comfortable and reassured, call an alternative doc STAT!
