It means your the exact same thing I am. I was told this on Monday and still here I sit with these dumb braxton hicks contractions. The doctors keep telling me as soon as little one drops ill go into labor, but he likes my ribs so who knows when.
Same for me, as I was told at Dr's appt this morning, and since this afternoon have been having real contractions from about 3-7pm, then again from 9pm til now (10:30 ish), and I know its still not far enough into labor to be worth calling about.
The good news is that it means you are closer, and going from 2cm to 5cm when you would really get into active labor is far easier and short term than if you were sitting at 1cm and 80% (which I was for 2 weeks before this). It could be an hour or a day or a few days, instead of weeks and weeks of potential waiting. Thats the only good news I can realistically tell you.
Thank you for the posts! With my first, I was always 1 cm dilated and she wasn't dropping. I ended up in the L&D, due to some issues, so fortunately, they kept me and induced me at that time, otherwise, who knows when I would have had her! It was ridiculous, so now, with my 2nd, I am more hopeful, because I'm making better progress
