I think my baby is going to be a lefty

I think my baby is going to be left handed.  He is always sucking on his LEFT fist and I just put a toy in his right hand only to have him grab it with his left and let go with the right.

Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

Kids often show a strong preference for one hand over the other while they are learning.  Actual left or right handedness doesn't usually show up and become permanent until toddlerhood.

DS1 always used his left to eat and hold toys.  He even started using utensils with his left but he's very much right handed now.  I'll catch him coloring with his left occasionally but he's definitely a righty.

  • DD favors her left hand too. But she will still use her right just as well when I put something in that hand. We'll wait and see but sometimes I wonder if she'll be lefty too

  • Yep!  Think Ian's going to be a lefty...is it hereditary cause his daddy is, and so his His daddy.   Will grab at things with both, but it's always left first, and only eats his left hand!

  • I think I'm a lefty, because everything naturally feels better left, and the things I do right are things I was taught, like eating and writing. But I could never hold the pencil or utensil correctly in my right. I used to think I wad ambidextrous, but now I think I'm a lefty that was trained to eat and write with my right. I kick and punch with my left, and I snowboard goofy. So watching lo changing off hand preferences, I really don't know what to expect lol

  • DS prefers his right. Always chews on it, grabs with it first. I'm going to assume he'll end up a righty but we shall see!

  • DS shows a strong preference for his left hand too. He also only ever breaks out of his swaddle with his left hand. DH and I are both lefties so it would be cool if he was too!
