So I think I've got it all figured out. It's a Dr. Seuss theme. We're expected 60ish people. 10 of those are kids between 3-6. Then we have the older kids. 7 of them ranging from 9-14.
Party starts at 2. There will be snacky food(soft pretzel nuggets with dips, goldfish, popcorn, veggie tray and spinach dip in a bread bowl...oh..and mini quiches..for the green eggs and ham. There will a craft table for the kids to decorate their party hats with Seuss stickers and art supplies. I also have some Seuss games(flannel board stories, lacing cards, etc) Cat in the Hat videos will be playing in the corner. Older kids are bringing their ipods and will be in charge of music.
Around 3, we'll open up the buffet line...lots of food...meatballs, sauasage and peppers, penne in vodka sauce, sandwiches, some salads, chicken nuggets, tater tots, and mac and cheese.
Around 3:45 or so, Cat in the Hat arrives! My friend has a costume. We're trying to convince our husbands to wear blue wigs and thing 1 and thing 2 shirts. The Cat in the Hat will read a story, pose fro pictures(my brother will run up the street to Target with the memory card to get instant pics so the kids can take their pics home) and then lead the kids in some games. We'll have Hot Potato(using a hat as the potato), a relay race(kids will wear a cat in the hat hat and balance a green egg on top of it), and then Pin the Hat on the Cat. That will take about 45 minutes or so.
4:30ish...Cake!!!!!! After cake, well then everyone can hang out or go home. We need to vacate the cabin we're having the party at by 10. I'll assume everyone will be gone by 6 so we can clean up the place.
How does that sound?
Re: Birthday party schedule
I teach 3 year olds and my friend teaches 1st grade so we're both used to keeping kids busy!
Sounds like you have everything planned out and it sounds like fun - I want to come! Oh, I know you shouldn't assume, but since it is a bday party, what about opening gifts?
