Some days this weekend are supposed to get up to 90 degrees. My step daughter plays softball for a travel team and this is how we spend most of our weekends during the summer. I love going to these tournaments and really don't want to miss them if I don't have to. Ofcourse I also don't want my DD to become overheated or suffer any discomfort.
Any suggestions for keeping babies comfortable in the heat? We have a small tent that we can use to keep her out of the sun so that is covered. What about giving her water to keep her hydrated? Are there rules for that?
The 1st games each day are in the morning so I know we can atleast attend those, but the afternoons are what I am really worried about.
I don't EVER want my step daughter to feel that I am choosing DD over her or that us now having a small baby means I can't do these things with her so I really want to attend as many of these games this summer as possilbe (with obviously keeping DD safe & happy)
Re: HEAT & babies
I think the tent is a good idea, but you'll need to find a shady spot to put the tent, otherwise I think it'll act like an oven and get really hot inside. Along the same lines, the tent needs to be well ventilated too.
Is your DD on formula or on breastmilk? I'm not sure about formula, but for EBF babies, breastmilk is all you need to keep baby hydrated. No need to give additional water. I would assume this is the same for formula as well.
It wouldn't hurt to bring a handheld fan to cool off your LO too. Maybe bring a few washcloths that you can wet with water to wipe her down if she gets sweaty.

My Colton...Growing up so fast!
And Coralee, his baby sister...On the way!
We live in very hot weather here, it regularly gets over 100 daily in the summer.
We go to my nephews baseball games/soccor games every week. We put up the pop up (tent like thing) it keeps us shaded and when it is really hot we use a mister that hooks to the pop up. we use it for the lakes too!
Also like PP said maybe hand held fan that sprits water, an ice pack or even just wipes diped in cool water and rub them on baby preiodically. hope this helps
This. I bring it on walks with my LO because it is already so hot here.
Also, my pedi said (we live in FL, so it gets HOT) that when it is really hot, cool water would be good like if you're a the beach or out for a long time, because really, what would you rather drink, warm milk or cool water? It's not so much for dehydration since BM and F will keep them hydrated, but it cools them down a little bit. You obviously still have to feed them the same amount they would normally eat, so they don't lose the nutrition/calories.
