How to avoid choas...

I love my DH family to death they are the sweetest people and have always been welcoming even when we first starting dating. However our families are very different. Some examples holidays & birthdays are not a big thing to them (they are for us) they smoke & curse in front of their children (we do not) My problem is everytime his Parents visit they kiss DD on the lips over and over again, they will not wash their hands, and it drives me crazy. Like I mentioned I love them very much and I do not want to offend them. Also they wonder why I do not bring LO to bbq's and other sctivities...my reasons are the smoking, cursing, sometimes fighting. How can I address this with my DH without hurting his feelings or offending his Family. I just want to keep the peace, have DD around all her family, and not have to worry about anything happening.

Re: How to avoid choas...

  • Talk to DH.  If anyone will understand, it should be him.  He could be a good go-between to talk to his family for you.  Also, don't feel bad for keeping your LO away from that situation.  I have family members who smoke, and I make sure he's not around that as much as possible.  My parents did the same thing when I was a child, and now I'm grateful they kept me away from certain family members who might have been a bad influence.  It doesn't mean you can never see them; you just don't have to go out of your way to see them.

Thanks. DH and I discuss everything but this is a touchy situation I just don't want to hurt his feelings...Although I believe he would understand my reasoning.
