This lady I work with just started fostering children. She got her first baby last night, she asked me if I could write her a list of things that I would say you HAVE to have for baby and things that wil make it easier. (she has never had children)
These are the things I came up with please feel free to add to it. I am gathering stuff for her to use (baby is a girl and she is 2 weeks younger than emily) that I am not using regularly. I got sooo much baby stuff for Emily I hardly use most of it.
I know she could only have the baby for a short time so I dont want to over load her with stuff, like our house is.
Things you Should have: bottles, diapers, wipes, clothes, baby bath supplies, diaper cream, somewhere to sleep, a few blankets... I know there is more but I am drawing a blank
please suggest things (non-expensive) that have made your life easier too.
Re: recommend have to have baby items
- SUCKIES... aka pacifier...
- Sanitzer for bottles if she doesn't have a dishwasher.. I love mine.. Dr Brown's brand.
- Books
Some type of baby carrier - Moby, Bjorn, anything - It might be a little costly but essential for when you need to be able to use both hands while carrying a baby that doesn't want to be put down.
And definitely an activity mat or bouncy chair/swing/bumbo so that you can put the baby down and go to the bathroom.
And an infant car seat with inexpensive stroller base (like Snap N Go) so you're not trapped in the house.
Baby medicine cabinet - Infant Tylenol, gas drops, gripe water, aspirator of some sort, thermometer
a few stimulating toys (w/ different colours, textures, sounds)
blankets for swaddling
BFP #3 - 05.20.11, EDD - 01.31.12, Logan is here! 02.05.12
BFP #2 - 03.16.11, M/C 03.24.11
BFP #1 - 10.17.10, Blighted Ovum dx, M/C 01.09.11
You can get the infantio carrier for $20 or less and it's very sufficient. I think if you have a carrier, you wouldn't need a stroller. Unless she is older and has a bad back or something.
My first thought is our nap nanny although this piece of foam was not cheap! Our LO has been in this since day one. I don't know what we would have done without it.
And a yes to swaddling blankets...
