Re: Coloring your hair

  • i did it during 2ww (dyed roots) permanent color

    i did non-permanent veg dye around 10w

and next time i will be using demi-permanent (most likely next week).  my MFM said perm was fine after 16w.  she said you ingest more chemicals from food.

i will continue to use demi for rest of pregnancy

so i am in favor of it :)

  • I was supposed to have mine done the day after ET.  I decided the cancel because I don't think you're supposed to color your hair in the first tri...not sure if that's true, but I didn't want to mess with anything.

My grays are all showing and if this cycle works, I won't cover them until mid-July!  It'll be worth it, but dang, I look OLD!

This is a great question.  While I don't color my hair, I do straighten it chemically.  I've known women to continue both during pregnancy.  If I ever get that sticky BFP, I will continue to straighten my hair.
    TTC since 3/07. IVF#1 = canceled. IVF#2 = 0% fertilization. IVF#3 = BFN. IVF#4 = c/p.
    Moving forward with Adoption 2017!
  • I usually do foils...which I think are ok.  I don't see why not to coloring in the 2ww...I think after you have a BFP I would do what wormsie did...just sayin :)

  • MIL was a hair stylist back in the day and FIL is a nurse. They agree that both are fine to do whenever. Perming is different though. They would say waiting until 2nd tri for that. But with coloring there is no medical records that say the chemicals do anything. As far as highlighting, if you were to get a foil one done, the product typically doesn't even touch your scalp so those are super safe.

I was even wondering if I could do it now, in the middle of the cycle! I know it's probably fine, but I feel like I don't want to do anything that could possibly be in any way shape or form harmful... I've been worrying about doing it but my roots are already showing and I look horrible!

I straighten mine too (the japanese) and i was told absolutely not.  In fact my salon won't even do it.  So will look pretty bad by the time this baby arrives and i MUST get it done before going back to work.

  • I colored mine around 8 weeks and will likely do it again in the next week or so.  Docs and everything I read said it was fine.  I asked the person applying it to try to avoid my scalp as much as possible.  Also, the dye I use is not at all smelly. Everything I read said the fumes were the worst part of it.

I would have prefered not to dye at all during pregnancy, but that's just not realistic if I have to look somewhat professional at work.  I have very dark hair and lots of very white roots and I look like a complete freak show if it's not taken care of.
