April 2012 Moms

If you seat your baby to burp,

how do you keep them "sitting?" As soon as I move LO from nursing to try to sit him to burp, his standing reflex starts, and I cannot for the life of my get him to sit down to burp him. He's just standing up screaming at me. I want to try burping him this way since he's been getting wet burps and missing the burp cloth every time. I swear, they should just make burping dickies.

I just tip her forward and burp her standing up.

Man, he wiggles so much that it's hard to solidly balance him with one hand while burping with the other.

  • I will lean LO over really far and that helps.  If she is super stiff, sometimes I'll put her between my legs and put her tummy on my one leg to help balance her.

  • I sit them sideways on one of my legs, holding their front in one hand with my hand sort of half around their neck/under their chin and half on their chest, tipping them forward. Then I pat their back with my other hand.

  • We hook his legs in between our legs. LOL. But lately after a few tries he finally gives up and sits down.

Yeah, she struggles.. I guess I use my legs too, because I'm always sitting with my knees pulled up.  I'm not sure exactly what happens (lol), but I know I don't bother trying to keep her sitting down.

  • I keep one hand in front and the other on her back tilted slightly forward. Sometimes I dont even have to pat her back. She just burps!
