Awesome. I got the call this morning that I failed the 1hr by a "hair". Now, I have to do the 3 hr test, which I am doing tomorrow morning. I have to fast 8-10 hours (won't be too bad since it's overnight), and sit around for 3 hours trying to work outside the office (I'm a lawyer and have a billable hour requirement so I can't afford to lose this much of my work week).
Frankly, I was really surprised that I failed the 1 hr. I have none of the risk factors for GD, though I know that isn't always determinative. However, I eat healthy, I exercise, I drink tons of water, I limit junk food, I'm not overweight, I don't have high BP, and I have no family history of diabetes!
I think I'm just frustrated that nothing I get tested for in this pregnancy seems to come out squeaky clean, I always have to go for further testing, only to be told not to worry. Also, the PA who called me about my results today told me that there's an 80-90% false positive rate in those who fail the 1 hr. I know they want to be over-inclusive, but how is a test with an 80-90% error rate a good idea? Ugh! I am so frustrated, I just want to be tested for something and get "normal" results the first time! Thanks for letting me vent. I'm not having a happy day...:(
Re: Failed the 1hr GTT by a "hair"-Awesome
It sucks, doesn't it!?
I had the same thing happen to me...and then I failed one level of the 3-hour...twice.
At my OB's office, if you fail one level of the 3-hour they make you repeat it, rather than just calling it negative like most of the rest of the world. I love my OB's office, this is the only policy I've found so far that really sucks.
Good luck with the 3-hour, hope you pass!

Totally! This really was one test I didn't worry about because I didn't consider myself "at risk", based on anything I've read. I know that's not always determinative, but geez! Sorry about your aggravations, I can't imagine having to do more testing after the 3 hour! (hope I didn't just tempt fate on that one!)

This is exactly why my Dr doesn't do the 1 hr test anymore. He does the 2 hr test for everyone, which is slowly becoming the new standard. Hope your 3 hr goes well and you don't have GD!
Totally. Plus, after the echogenic spot that they found on his bowel, and all the f/u testing after that, I'm really worn out with getting "abnormal" results on things. I'd like just to breeze through from here on out!
